Been lurking and learning on here for some time now. Lots of talented and smart welders. Lots of information and projects. Thought I would share one of my recent ones. BULL Attached Images
Reply:Very neat.  What did you use as a template to keep it as spherical as possible?
Reply:looks good.  How big around is it?
Reply:We already have enough nutballs on this forum! Seriously though, nice work!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:That's nuts!
Reply:That would make a great avatar picture!either you LIKE BACON or you're WRONG!!!! "There are three kinds of men.The ones that learn by readin'.The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves"-Will Rogers
Reply:Now just screw in the appropriate sized bolts in each one to "round out" the ball even more. How many different size nuts did you use? I think I see at least two sizes, but since I can't roll it around to look it's hard to say.
Reply:Nice ! Stainless nuts besides , cool !     What sizes  ? !/2'' and 3/4'' ?
Reply:Very cool!  I've got a couple of 2" that are excess if you need them.  30+ yrs Army Infantry & Field Artillery, 25 yrs agoMiller 350LX Tig Runner TA 210, spool gunLincoln 250/250 IdealArcESAB PCM 500i PlasmaKazoo 30"  vert BSKazoo 9x16 horiz BSClausing 12x24 lathe20T Air Press
Reply:Thanks for the compliments. Approx 6 inch diameter, Yes I have a "mold" to assist in making it "spherical"Primarily 1/2" nuts, there are some 3/8", for spacing. All Stainless and had a buddy polish it up. BULL
Reply:I love creative people and what they make ,but I gotta ask did you make that in to halves and then joint it ? I see no external welds!!!  gxbxc
Reply:Very cool!!! Unfortunately, I am not the least bit artistic so, how much to buy one?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Yes, Its made in 2 halves and put together. If you look closely at between the 12-1  and 5-6 o'clock positions, on the outside edges of the picture. you can see some exterior welds. Tried to do the least amount possible. Not sure about the sale price. I know there are about 125 large nuts and they run about 50 cents each. plus the time and some consumables and polishing.....probably too not what someone would be willing to pay. Actually entered it into an art competition at work, maybe it will win me something.
Reply:Yea I 'll bet some one at a gallery would spend hard cash for that

Reply:Well, VERY cool anyway. If you decide on a price, PM me. Then I will decide if I just have to have it!!!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:bull706> Beautiful!!! Love that you're using it as your avatar. --"Approx 6 inch diameter, Yes I have a "mold" to assist in making it "spherical" Would you be so kind as to describe your mold and post photos of it please? I've got a little stash of keys and I've been wanting to do something like this as a gift for a neighbor who is a locksmith and simply couldn't figure out what to use as a mold. --Most appreciative of any help you can provide to me.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:I'm assuming that since the two halves are welded from the inside, the mold is a half hemispherical bowl or the like, and you simply lay the nuts in and weld them at their exposed inside junctures?
Reply:mr. moose is correct. basically its a metal bowl, that is round on the bottom and not flat. i found it at goodwill locally, for under $5. appears to be some kind of cake pan/cooker, in it previous life. an old metal colander would work, as well. i find useful stuff at goodwill or thrift stores, all this time. i make some stuff out of old utensils as well. 10 cents a piece.BullLincoln 180 MigSyncrowave 250 Tig
Reply:Thank you... both of you. I actually went to Salvation Army and GoodWill and I think I picked up the wrong "forms". Too thin. I blew through one metal platter form and some sort of a side dish bowl. I bought a wooden salad bowl to use as a form from either TJ Maxx or Marshall's clearance aisle and haven't tried that yet. A colander would definitely be thicker than the platter and side dish bowl I bought so thanks for mentioning that.... I'll be on the lookout for one. The other "forms" I tried were only $1.99 each so I don't mind that they're trashed.  --Here's the key ball I was interested in, not my photo.----bull706> I too have been buying silverware from GoodWill for .10¢ each. I have quite the stash of flatware and ideas for how to put it to use. I'm going to add a few for you in case you need a gift idea what with the holidays around the corner.... none are my photos. --MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:Equilibrium--I make what I call a dragonfly, similar to your first picture. I give them to family members or hide them around town, or in the places that I go 4 wheeling. they are in several state in the eastern seaboard. I've see a few of those ideas, and I love the little frog. I am going to steal that and make it soon. I've recently gotten a TIG welder and am learning/practicing slowly. much easier to make small welds than my MIG.DSW--I've see that Hulk, think it was on Instagram. I'd love to see your dragonfly.... the one you hide around town which.... sounds like something I'd do.  Here's my 1st attempt at a dragonfly and my take on the frog (that I stole from somebody else) complete with a little bolt bug on his tongue. It was fun. I don't have a TIG so I used a MIG and blew through the side of the frog's mouth.... oopsie. I guess I didn't have the "touch". --MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. That might be for his cigarette or cigar !  It has to be a male frog. Looking at his tongue, it looks like he took Viagra and couldn't swallow it soon enough. Those  turned out nice, silverware can be changeling for sure.
