Hey I'm thinking bout get this and turning into a welding rig gettin it for cheap very cheap just got to put a motor and trans in it also it's a lincoln sa 200 welder in the back that I might just get for a package deal....all for a 1,000 just got to fix some rust under the door the rocker panels....truck has original miles which is 74,000

Reply:He is taking the motor out it's a 454 thinking about getting the same motor it's a 1983 I think only want 300 for the truck and 700 for the welder

Reply:Its probably worth a thousand dollars with a working tranny and engine. Not something I would buy.
Reply:Welder could be worth a grand. Go for it truck like that makes the same pay check as a new one. Get an old 12 valve cummins and drop in there be a great welding car.

Reply:With only 74,000 actual miles on it, it is still practically brand new mechanical wise. So it should be a good candidate to turn into a welding rig. You can install the engine/transmission package of your choice too. Replacement sheet metal panels for the rusted areas are available from some suppliers.
Reply:What's the story on the welder? With the welder (running condition) I'd be all over that. I'd find a sbc 400 or 383 to replace the bbc unless you plan to do a bunch of heavy towing.

Then she drained all the fluids and put it in her garage with an industrial dehumidifier. The whole reason she bought it was to eventually sell it for retirement money. But most used cars are used. Really used.

Reply:That big daullie bed will carry the old welder across the bed behind cab ,mount it on a skid with the O/A set and leads attached , put on some rail mounted tool boxes and a small knack box and go to work
Reply:It really wouldn't matter much the miles as that truck can still be built out of a box if need be. There are very, very few parts not available new and aftermarket so whatever is worn would be easy to replace. With a 15 year old comparable truck pushing or higher than 20k in price, there is a lot of room on this one unless is a really rusty mess under layers of body plastic. The old Chevy and GMC brands were pretty good although really rode hard in comparison to later models but you could really pack on the weight to even that out. The four door pickups were a bit unwieldy to maneuver into tight areas and I replaced a lot of rear fenders and bedsides because of it in years gone by.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:I'd buy it. If it were me I'd probably just go with a 454 and TH400- although a 4L80e would be nice. |
