Hi all, i recently got into welding. And ive got a wheel horse a-100 pic: And i need a garden dump cart. Ive looked online, but it just seems like a lot of money to spend (im 15 years old so i dont have that kind of money laying around. Lol)  so i have a pair of front garden tractor wheels, in decent shape. That im going to use. Im gonna go down to my local dump to see if i can get old bed frames, cause i hear the angle iron they use is pretty strong. And for the sides and bottom i'll use 2x4's cause its cheaper than sheet metal and will be quieter in the woods to get firewood and moving mulch around the yard for the flower beds. Maybe i'll spray it with the rhino bed liner... Like the truck bed liners that are sprayed in. My dad has his truck with the sprayed in bed liner and that can really take a beating. Its been holding up well. I'll keep this thread updated with info on the build. Oh i almost forgot, the drawing plans. If anyone is wondering im using a software called draft sight (ITS FREE!  ) here is a link to the site  http://www.3ds.com/products-services...ight/overview/  let me know what ya think! If anyone has any advice, that would be great to! Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk

Reply:Thanks Jerry! So yesterday, i got about 2 bed frames of angle iron. Just has a little paint, very minimal rust. Now comes the hardest part... What are the dimensions lol. I'll have to figure that out before i start cutting up the steel i have. I'll post pics as soon as i figure that out and lay out the steel for welding.About the hinges, to make it a dumping bed. Would these type of hinges work for the dump action of the bed? Of course i would have a minimum of 4 hinges. Possibly more than 4. Since i will be really loading this thing up. Here is a pic of the hinges im talking about Attachment 756191Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkLast edited by iZach98; 06-30-2014 at 09:22 AM.Using Tapatalk
Reply:So i made some head way today, well today was more like a half of a day worth of work. Anyways i built the frame for the dump bed part, and started the actual frame. I welded 2 pieces of angle iron together to create some square tube iron.  So here are some pics And some nice beads out of the welds I think i need a new wire brush, lol So the dump bed is going to pivot on the axle. I see this being stronger than the hinges i posted. And cheaper. Im gonna make a tail gate (like the on on a pick up truck, with the steel wire for support.) so its gonna be just under 6ft long and about 3ft wide (including wheels) with a load capacity of 16 cubic feet of whatever i need to haul.Any ideas on how much the weight capacity will be? Even a wild guess will do.I wonder if anyone is following this build? If so, say hello! Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:Looks like you have a good start going. The weight limit would be what your axle, tires and tongue will hold. Heck probably 400lbs.Fireman BillHH 210 MVPMM 211 Spoolmate 100Lotas LTP5000D PlasmaOxy/Accet (Victor)Wards AC/DC buzz box30 ton old hyd pressA few brand name toolsA bunch of cheap toolsA wife to worry me and4 dogs to supervise me

Reply:Look on this thread for more inspiration/ideas for your build.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ping-yard-cartDon't know if you have seen it or not yet. Maybe you can finish yours before nailbright does. Mines been finished for a few years now.

Reply:So today, i got the axle. Not really what i was hoping for but i was at home depot and it was there. Its 3/4"steel tubing. Not the solid steel i was looking for but it will have to do. Also got some washers. And some more welding wire. It really sucks when you run out of that! Cause the closest store that sells it is in river head (45min to 1 hour long drive)Also the dump cart is going to pivot on the wheel axle. Ive got to get home and get welding! Also i got my drivers permit today!  so i can drive with my parents around now. Just need a truck...Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:Congrats on the driver's permit!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:3/4" tubing sounds way too light for an axle, depending on wall thickness. Solid bar = better.

Reply:The axle is of primary importance as well as for safety. This isn't the place to take shortcuts. There are other ways to save $. For example visit the local metal supplier and look for drops (cut-off pieces). But check for straightness (by eye). If you don't already have one, even a plastic dial caliper will be of immense help.
Reply:[QUOTE=iZach98;4390171]Yeah, i know. But i was there and i will see how long this hold up. Im thinking not very long lol. I can always replace it if needed. (Which i probably will have to do)Doing it right the first time is 3 times cheaper than doing it poorly.
Reply:So ive got it almost done! Heres a few pics Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:This hitch is just temporary till i find a better way to do it.This is the dump latch. What do you think? Just gotta bolt on some 2x4's then paint and done.Didnt get much done today cause i had work at my local Ace Hardware store.Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:The dump latch is a little rough, and I wouldn't trust too much weight on the cotter pin, but you've made rapid progress. Good work.
Reply:Thanks, yeah. Im off today so maybe i'll redo the hitch and put down some 2x4's in the bed.Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:Looking good.Does your sister know you stole her bed frame and replaced it with bricks?Just kidding. Way to recycle your materials. At work, we call that "Repurposing Company Assets".Congrats on the drivers license. I got my learners permit in 1974. Excellent cars back then.
Reply:Your build will hold up just fine.I have a cheapo trailer from Lowes that's about 15 years old now that sees 400 LBS of pelletts at a time in 40LB bags..I don't place them in I throw them in from the back of my previous dump truck....It would bounce off the ground and everything...3/4" solid axle and all I have done is bend the tounge..You will be just fine with yours and believe it or not...You will bend solid rod before you bend tubing of the same size....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home. Here are some pics of how the cart sits now What do ya think? Its not completed yet, but pretty close to be!Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk

Reply:Hi all, i bulit another implement for my wheel horse. But its on the Garden Tractor forums that im on, so here is the link to that thread for the build http://gardentractortalk.com/forums/...New-Project%21I hope you can check it out! Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:No wonder you won't put it on this forum. Your building it out of wood.BTW, you can clean the transaxle with a high pressure power washer before you tear it down as you will be able to get out whatever water may get in it when you have it apart for repairs.
