I wish lincoln would start putting 2 pounds of wire on their flux core spools instead of 1 pound.I changed out 3 empty spools yesterday.I am making a grate to go in a barrel stove in the garage and I had 1 almost empty 0.035 NR-211 on the welder,so I used it up.Then I had 2 spools of 0.030 about half full that I wanted to use up before I went back to a full roll of 0.035 NR-211.I used up about 1/3rd of the new roll before finishing.I might go to tractor supply and get a 2 lb roll of hobart wire and try it,I really like the lincoln wire though, just wish they would make 2 lb rolls instead of 1 lb rolls.....dougMaxus Pro-125 MigChicago Electric 90 amp DC flux-coreLincoln Electric AC 225 tombstoneO/A torchM/O mini-torch10 acres of flatland15 acres of holler
Reply:If your machine can handle 8 inch diameter spools, use those instead.    The 8inch spools of FCAW wire are usually 10 pounds as opposed to the little 4 inch diameter 1-2 pound spools. Also, the 8 inch spools are -usually- less expensive per pound of wire than the 4 inch spools of the same wire.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Hey dugndeep,I have to agree with MoonRise on this one.....get the 10 lb spools. I have found 10lb spools of Lincoln NR211 on E-Bay for $35 incl s/h and I use it a lot on my mobile unit. In addition, if I can get a good buy, I will buy several since I refill my empty 2# spools for my spoolgun. Simply do the math.....DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Give the Hobart a try, you may like it.
Reply:I will have to modify my welder to use the 10 lb rolls, but I have thought about respooling my 2 lb rolls from a 10 lb roll. That is probably what I will end up doing.I did go to tractor supply today on my way home from work and bought a 2 lb roll of hobart flux core wire.I have never used hobart wire and can't wait to put it on there to try it out.Was going to do that when I got home from work but my nephew wanted me to help him on his 4x4 blazer he is fixing up,so it will have to wait until tomorrow. Will have alot of welding to do on the blazer before to long with an axle swap and other things to do.I got a feeling the hobart wire will be some good wire, won't have to be swapping out rolls so much(lol)........doug Attached ImagesMaxus Pro-125 MigChicago Electric 90 amp DC flux-coreLincoln Electric AC 225 tombstoneO/A torchM/O mini-torch10 acres of flatland15 acres of holler
Reply:Ix-nay on unrolling wire from a bigger spool onto a smaller spool. One of the 'easiest' ways to run a bigger size spool on a machine than can't physically fit the spool inside of the wire compartment is to just put the spool outside of the machine and put some sort of adjustable drag mechanism on the spool so it doesn't self unravel.  Maybe put a small diameter hole in the sheet metal of the wire compartment and just feed the wire through.  Make sure the wire is feeding in a straight line to/with the feed rollers. And automotive sheet metal with FCAW wire sucks.  GMAW aka MIG is so much better for working on sheet metal.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:I need to figure out how to make something similiar to that,my dad has a rig that he has made for putting fishing line on fishing poles. He loves to catfish and we do have some big one's here in the KY river, some of his poles have 50-75 lb test line,so maybe I could use that except put welding wire on  instead of fishing line.It is a manuel rig but maybe I could put a small electric motor on it somehow but it might work pretty good as is.I seen on ebay a 10 lb roll for 45 dollars and free shipping.I just might try this the next time I get low on wire. The catfish in this picture weighed 35.5 lbs,all of dad's fishing buddies, especially the one in the picture, make fun because my dad goes prepared when he goes catfishing, big penn level wind reel with a 8 foot shakespeare ugly stick rod with 75 lb test dacron line.My dad will be 75 years old this year and he can still out fish me and it makes me happy to see the joy in his eye's when he catches them this big and say's(that's how you do it son)................doug Attached ImagesMaxus Pro-125 MigChicago Electric 90 amp DC flux-coreLincoln Electric AC 225 tombstoneO/A torchM/O mini-torch10 acres of flatland15 acres of holler
