Hello, Just curious can i have a mixture of gas... like 85 argon 15 carbon in one tank or do they need to be is 2 separate tanks?

Reply:Mig gas is typically sold already mixed in a single cylinder. However they do sell specially designed gas mixers that allow you to custom mix different gasses from separate cylinders and get repeatable reliable results. Those systems aren't cheap though. Several members here use them.Some guys do use Rube Goldberg systems to make their own mixes. However it's hard to get good repeatable results and your mix is a guess at best. While it will work many times so you can weld, you have no idea what you really are getting to use..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Smith Equipment Proportional Mixer Argon and CO2, 299-006-1Bfor 499.00 plus shippingI like the guy i get my gases from but he really don't know diddly about gas mixes and this will make it easier on us both now i will just buy straight Argon in my big bottles and have the smaller CO2 bottles filled there and mix it how i wantrather than experimenting with different bottles of different mixesif you bid your time you can find ones cheap used ...new ones are over a grand and some way higher than that which is WAY to much for meBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:I have a Smith Argon/CO2 mixer as well, having the capability to use different mix ratios at will is a huge plus IF you need it.   I do everything from sheet metal to 1 inch plate, being able to dial in the right mix for spray transfer and not having a bunch of different bottles is great.   It is not the least expensive way to go but, depending on your situation it could save time and money in the long run.Steve from SoCal now in HutchMiller Dynasty 300DX Coolmate3 Speedway TorchMiller XMT 450 MPa plus with D-74 MPa Plus Miller Bobcat 225 NTHypertherm Powermax 45And a whole bunch of machines
