hiI need to make a cord to plug my welder into a dryer outlet in my sheddryer cord has red, white, black insulated wires and 1 wire that's not insulated30 amp receptacle has green screw, an X and Y, both brass screwscould someone please tell me which wires go into which hole? I thank you very much in advance for reading and thank you again for taking the time to post if you do.. very much appreciated, ty

Reply:I'd go black to X, red to Y on principles (black/red/blue is normal phase ordering) but in 240V single phase, as others have mentioned, it does not matter functionally . . . .- Tim
Reply:in other countries wire color code is different. i would use ohm meter to confirm which wire color the center ground plug is connected too.. the ground connected properly can help you from getting electrocuted it you touch the outside of a welder as the welder shell is often connected to the ground wire. |
