Hi All,Just picked up a used Maxstar 150 STL with a bunch of goodies (finger, pedal, rods, gloves, and reg) and it came with the cord chopped off at the plugs.  I ordered a new MVP cable and fired her up last night (tried to) and got nothing.  I can hear the solenoid click and the white "blocks" on the PCB are warming up but I'm not getting any other action.   No LED's and no output.  Any help appreciated. If someone can post the technical checklist for testing with a meter, that would be wonderful.   I can make my way around with the meter but without knowing the expected values I'm fishing in the dark.  Otherwise, nothing smells or looks burned. All connections appear intact.thank you!
Reply:Welcome,  have you called Miller yet? sent while goofing off at workLong after the price is forgotten, the quality will remain. Both of my Poppy's 1954 Short Hoods -Third generation to weld with it and teaching a fourthSA 2## - Bought and sold more than I can remember or care to list, 8 in the shop right now
Reply:I did and sent a tech support email.  They called back and said it sounds like the board is fried but didn't elaborate much.  Told me the tech manual was not available to retail. So I come in peace, looking for info here.  HahaSent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Reply:My father used to chop the cords off of electronics and appliances that eent bad so people wouldn't attempt to use them after they got tossed.   Sounds like you got burned by the seller.  Who either knew or just never used it after finding it at a jobsite.  I see the used Maxstars go between 600 and 1100, you may be best off trying to find one that works.  I rarely read success stories involving inverter machines.
Reply:Well. Here's my problem.   The PC2 board has a fried component. Does anyone have a spare available or know of a place with some spare maxstars hanging around for parts?  Otherwise I guess I need to buy new. Thanks a lotSent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Reply:The problem is that if you replace the part that's burnt, it may just fry again after the money you've spent.  It's typical for parts to fail and take out other parts.  So the parts that's visible may just be the tell tail sign that there lies a bigger problem elsewhere.  Like pedaldude said, a chopped cord is usually the sign of a bad machine and inverter repairs rarely go well.  You may be able to honestly part it out and get some money back.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:It may be fixable.  It looks like a simple component that has fried there like a surface mount resistor or capacitor.Take it to somebody nearby that is good with electronics.  Incidentally surface mount resistors typically cost around 2-3 cents in the hundreds.  Yes that is correct pennies. The trouble is knowing what is missing.  And as others have stated something else could be wrong that fried that part but if you know an electronics geek it is worth a shot.Buy him a pizza..millermatic 130XPharbour freight 180 amp mig with added caps.hobart stickmate ac/dcpowerarc 200
Reply:Well the rheostat and the diode tested OK with a meter so I just re soldered the diode back in place.  She fired right up and I put down a stick and tig bead and no problems so far.   Wish me luck.Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
