Wanted unique fixtures that you wouldn't find at Loews or Home Depot. These are motorcycle connecting rods, car or truck rods were just too big.

Reply:Cool!
Reply:Motolife313--Jack away, drop me a picture when your done. The flat bar is 1-1/2 x 1/4 hot rolled, mill scale removed and drilled on my mill using a DRO, makes the job easy. If you use connecting rods, I milled one side of cap to get the correct angle, that too was done on the mill.

Reply:200mphbusa Hate to be the odd-man out - but this is what you do not . . .Connecting rod are a precision machine part - you have put great labor into these pieces - shaving the rod and cap bosses on plain, and your wall mounts are an effort to mirror this precision. The incongruity is the weld. Any visible weld destroys the integrity of your materials, and design. The difference between a trade-meet novelty - and commandingartisan compensation - are invisible welds.Your inspiration and attention to detail are great - and welding isnecessary - but the welds must be Smoke & Mirrors.Back to the drawing board . . .Opus
Reply:Little harsh. . . but after much thought and consideration. . . I think he is correct. No offense or anything.

Reply:Optus Ferro--OK.....well....I can certainly appreciate the beauty of hidden or invisible welds, mechanical fastening might have been possible from the back side with a little care, or perhaps a slot milled and plug welded from the back side. In hindsight, that would have been cool and added to the piece. I'll have to consider that next time/next project. I appreciate the input, thanks. While my TIG welds are far from a stack of dimes, the welding does add a bit of coolness and for 99% of the folks that will ever see this the weld would never come to mind, but for the 1%, I'll do better next time. Again, thanks for the thoughts. Cheers.
