Is there a way to estimate shipping on this site?Seems really odd that there is no way of knowing until you get billed...cheers,(I'm just a weld for fun type of guy, so maybe this is normal for B2B type sites?)

Reply:Not that i know of.  I've ordered plenty from them and the shipping is always between $6-7 for a small box (12x6x6" or so).Sent from my S4 using Tapatalk1988 Big 50 Diesel CC/CV1982 Weldanpower 225/2101968 SAE 300 motor generatorMaxstar 200SD2015 AHP 200x"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan
Reply:I use McMaster often. Always for stuff I can't get. Their merchandise is not cheap but the shipping is reasonable. The best part is they have what you want and they get it to you in a hurry. I just figure if I need it or want it the shipping doesn't matter because their rates are fair.
Reply:Yea...At first I was also concerned about shipping when using McMaster. But after a number of orders...I now don't really worry since shipping has ALWAYS been more than fair and reasonable. One time I even forgot an item...Had to add a second order. They just shipped it free.   You just don't see this kind of service anymore.   FWIW...I just love that place. They have everything and all of it is top quality. Even Mil-spec washers. All kinds of very hard to find items. Their website is also awesome. Service fantastic.  By the way...Their smart phone app is also very cool.Last edited by Tim9; 01-04-2016 at 07:21 PM.
Reply:I don't know if they have more than one warehouse.  From Minneapolis if I order before noon I usually get it two days later, sometimes the next day.  Most of the time things come UPS ground.  Going by the UPS ground shipping estimate from Chicago to your place plus a day is probably going to be close.  The UPS web site says Illinois to Minnesota is 2 days ground.  Works for me.
Reply:I am pretty sure they have several warehouses. I know they have one near LA in CA and I get my stuff in 2 days with regular ground shipping. Reply:I just called them and asked about shipping.  Took about 20 seconds to talk to a really nice gal. They don't have shipping estimates, but I believe they don't gouge you.  If concerned, I'd just call them and do the order over the phone and get the skinny.  NOW, if I could just get one of their printed catalogs, I would be in heaven. You can't even buy one except second-hand."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:McMasters website is very easy to navigate.....much easier than MSCs. The good thing about MSC is that they have a dist center close to where I work so I can call in the morning and pick it up at lunch.
Reply:Always reasonable, always good quality and I don't have to spend half a day shopping to get what I'm looking for, phone orders are always easy and top notch service, I'm close to a chicago hub so I see it the next day, I ask on phone country of origin and they have the awnser MSC is good also, even on a couple of bolts it's still cheaper than stopping work or driving 5 miles round trip
Reply:We came by but u weren't home, I guess.  We're all in burns now.  On our way to Penny's for supper and Monday night footballSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:I use them for everything. I don't care if I call at 5pm, its there the next day.  It's funny they don't advertise the brands, but they are usually top quality. If you order a socket, you'll get a Proto or Armstrong for example.  I did get a horrendous shipping bill once when I ordered thousands of disposable gloves, so I do consider other sources for bulky items. Your account is on caller ID, so the order takes no more than telling them the part number.
Reply:McMaster is #1!!! great websiteMSC #2Grainger, a distant third. They have 2 warehouses in town, and never have whatever it is I need in stock. Reply:The only shipping issue I have had with McMC was when I ordered a 10' stick of 1 1/2" nested tubing.  The 10' stick was cheeper to purchase than two 5' sticks.  The 10' had to come by truck instead of UPS. 10' shipping ended up costing more than the tubing.  Lesson learned.Being in Illinois I can order something before noon one day and have it before noon the next.Dan D.Manipulator Of Metal

Reply:Their used catalogs bring big money on eBay.I've personally never ordered anything from them before. eBay is the first place I look for obscure and hard to find stuff. I've usually found what I was looking for there. Not knocking McMaster, I just know they're pretty expensive on a lot of stuff and I've found that if I do a little looking around, I can find what I need elsewhere for much less.Just bought some flanged thermostats for a welder I'm repairing.Miller cost $37.80/ea. $10.00 shipping....eBay cost $2.99/two pcs, $1 for shipping....All I needed were the specs on the part, then just start digging around..Sure wish I had a truckload of their hard copy catalogs tho Last edited by 7A749; 01-05-2016 at 10:42 AM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:That is an amazing company. Their freight is very reasonable for small, misl hardware parts. I dont even ask about shipping costs for the most part. But like you, for larger, heavier items only, I would want to know shipping cost.  Their staff is so professional. A great company.
Reply:I order probably 90% of my supplies from them. I get welding supplies at the LWS, a tool guy in town for machining related things, but almost everything else comes from them. They may be a little more expensive but not having to deal with a bunch of bull**** more than makes up for the cost. I order tonight and it will be here either tomorrow or the next day every single time. One time I ordered 25ft of 4/4 power cord and they didn't ship because they only had 22 ft on the roll. I needed the power cord to hook up a machine for a job over the weekend, this was Friday night at 6pm, so I called to see what the holdup was. They explained that they only had 22 continuous feet, I said that was fine, and it showed up on my doorstep at 9am the next day. Not only did they not charge me for shipping but they also didn't charge me for the power cord. I called and explained the mistake that they made, not charging me, and they said, " Sorry for the lack of communication, have a nice weekend".
Reply:Getting a hard copy of their catalog is the only thing hard.  They automatically send me one, but initially I had to call several times. I've thrown many out, I didn't know you could sell them on ebay! Another nice thing is they have my history for many years.  I had to order gear boxes they no longer carry, but they looked ten years back and sent me the same box I needed.

Reply:We get new catalogs from them every year....Got a pile of them in the office....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Better get digging thru them man! Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948They also have a dis center in NC, we used to get most stuff next day ,and as for hard copies they use to send them to us by the case .But then we were a gov.contractor

Reply:McMasterCarr - hands down best company on the PLANET. I never buy from a company that doesn't provide shipping cost - except for McMasterCarr. They have treated my fairly on every single order. Sure sometimes their prices are a little high but they always have what I need, provide accurate detailed drawings, have a fabulous website, sell high quality stuff, charge reasonable shipping fees, and have everything on my door step the next day. Reply:their catalogs are almost a "status" indicator within the company i work for lol. you can point out different people and their status by their truck, time with company, blood relation to owner, but the guy with the mm c catalog. . . . .DONT F%%K WITH THAT GUY!i started under one of them, in the shop. i always thought it was awesome how we could look at something, and start dreaming up ways to fasten it. . . . ."what about a blind knurled knob, about 1 1/2" od, but out of 316. . . . . . . ." didn't matter what the dream was, they always made it happen.good cheat for c/v boot clamps i found was 3/8" wide worm drives in stainless, and mmc was the only place i could find them. i still have a box of thembosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:I'm gonna have to buy something from them just to say I did.Of course, if I started looking around on their site, I would likely spend a lot of money that I don't need to Hard enough to stay off eBay when I got extra scratch. Once I start digging around in surplus seller's stores, I almost always find something I can't live without. Thanks for helping me spend money I don't have, on stuff I haven't even seen yet guys! Reply:Last week I used them to source a dozen neoprene "O" rings special made being .250 thickness diameter and 10.25" inner perimeter diameter which is a non standard size. Not a bad price at $8.93 each either. Had them in three days and the fit is perfect. I've dealt with them for over 25 years myself and have yet to be disappointed by the service. Many of the operators know me by name when I call in an order so don't think they are too big to care or have lost that customer service edge that sets them apart from most establishments. They are the first vendor I patronize after trying to stay local.I long ago ceased doing business with Fastenal due to "chit for brains" service, consistent wrong orders, paying for inter store transfer, spotty, (at best) delivery targets, partial filled orders etc. Non of this garbage exists now, or ever has with McMaster-Carr in my tenure.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....

Lot of times I call in, tell them what I'm after when I don't have the internet available, and they'll put the order together.
