What kind of set up do y'all use for in the field tig welding I've used a trailblazer with the scratch start tig setup and was wondering if there is an easier way or simpler way
Reply:Tig welding doesn't get much simpler than scratch start. Are you needing a foot pedal? HF start?Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:Well just seeing if a setup is possible without having a big machine the bottle and torch set up and plus dealing with finding somewhere without wind
Reply:can't avoid the bottle though. TIG is not possible without shielding gas. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! HTP Invertig 400HTP Invertig 221HTP ProPulse 300HTP ProPulse 200 x2HTP ProPulse 220MTSHTP Inverarc 200TLP HTP Microcut 875SC

A 5500 watt generator and a Miller Maxstar 150stl would be a small setup that could handle lots of steel/stainless jobs. A small cylinder of argon helps keep things portable if you don't want to leave things on the truck.
Reply:I use same set up. 5000watt Genny with 40 cylinder. rare to need to tig, for me. Especially outside.
Reply:At work we have a few 150stls set up on small modified two wheel dollies. We keep a 40 bottle on the bottom and weld a little shelf above where the bottle is for the unit to sit on secured with a small ratchet strap and a couple little hooks for lead hangers. They are super handy. We usually have on site power to plug into, but have small gennys we can run them of if we need to. As for wind, if you have a helper he can hold cardboard or something like that or tape some up somewhere to block the wind. Just whatever it takes.
