I just started my new suitcase for the first time today with my Trailblazer 325.  I'm using .045 Hobart flux core wire.  I'm welding half inch plate together.  I have the Trailblazer set to remote flux core wire, do I need to still reverse the polarity to dcen?  Or did the knob I turn on the Trailblazer for remote flux core set it internally?  I tried reversing the polarity, but seemed when I did any weld settings with voltage and wire speed weren't even close.  Got the best results with 27 volts, and 140 wire speed.  But I feel like maybe that's not right for 1/2" plate.  When I turned wire speed up, the puddle got lumpy, too high pinholes everywhere.  I have a shop mig that performs amazing. And I really need to get this thing going just as smooth.  I know flux core will be dif, but when I've done it in my shop mig it turned out much nicer than this suitcase is doing.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.
Reply:I have a TB302, I have to switch my polarity and set it on CV.  You are way too high on voltage . You can look it up on the hobart site but I think you need to be in the 18-20v area. What hobart wire are you running? A quick read in your owners manual should tell you if the polarity changes when you switch to CV but I think you would have to manually change it.  If you are using 21B .045 you should be running 18v and 170-190 wire speed. If you are like me when I first started using flux core you are expecting it to run like hard wire. I doesn't. It will seem like you are in slow motion compared to hard wire. It will take 2-3 passes to but t weld a 1/2 piece.  To be honest I do not like how 21B runs. My TB has CV tap for voltage sensing feeders and one for regular CV you need to be on regular CV if yours has the same thing.  I found that I ran my wire speed a little slower than the Hobart specs call for . I think I was running 18v and about 150 wire speed with my extreme 12vs feeder.  I also seemed to like a little more voltage too like 19-20 but the wire is not rated for high voltage.  I also found the 21B to be very touchy about moisture so if you are welding in cold weather I would run a torch or a weed burner on the parts until the condesation evaporates off of it , then weld it.Last edited by thegary; 01-23-2016 at 03:18 PM.
Reply:I'm using E71T,  or called triple 7?  I tried finding the settings on Hobart's site but must not be finding the right spot.  Yeah the settings on my Trailblazer are set right except not sure if I do have to reverse polarity, both the manuals for both machines mention nothing about that.  I did switch it anyway because I remember that's how my shop mig needs to be set for flux core.  But maybe this is totally dif?  Attached Images
Reply:You have your machine on the right position. I am 99% sure you have to manually reverse the polarity. E71T what ? There are several wires in that class the 21B is E71T-11. The setup should be the same as your shop mig but each machine runs a little different so you need to tweak it to where you like it.Last edited by thegary; 01-23-2016 at 03:38 PM.
Reply:I just checked the Hobart site. There are only 2 wires that are made in .045 with the E71T designation. One is for single pass only. I would suspect you are using Fabshield 21B it is the most versatile. Set it to 18v and 175 wire speed that should get you in the ball park then tweak it to where you like it. The flux core wires are touchy about stick out. the 21B stick out is 1/2" try to maintain it as you move.Last edited by thegary; 01-23-2016 at 03:57 PM.
Reply:Ok on the spool there's a few dif numbers...E71T-1CE71T-1M-H8It says its triple 7, and when I looked that is a flux core gas shielded wire, so maybe I'm screwed on that and need a new spool.  I'm guessing the part # is s285812-k29
Reply:I may be wrong, but I think that's a CO2 shielded dual shield wire. You need CO2 and run your polarity Positive on the wire.
Reply:https://www.gasandsupply.com/i/Tri-M...TRMS285812-K29Yeah, I told the lws I needed Hobart flux core wire.  They gave me the wrong one.  Guess I'll have to swap out on Monday.  I have a bottle of 75/25 but not sure I want to bother with it.

Reply:So what flux core self shielding wire should I go with for all positions?  I do a lot of fabrication, erecting metal buildings, and custom skid steer attachments....which is what I was trying to do today.  I want something good.
Reply:yes you have dual shield wire. you need to get Hobart21B . For a versatile all around wire. It is all position and good up to 3/4 plate.  If they do not have 21B get lincoln NR211 mp  . If you use the NR211mp it picks up moisture in the flux after a few months so do not get a bigger roll than you will use in 2-3 months. So far the 21B seems more stable as far as moisture pickup in the flux core. To me the wire you use needs to be dictated by what your local LWS stocks. You do not want to have to special order ever time you need wire.Last edited by thegary; 01-23-2016 at 04:48 PM.

Reply:Correct, I do not have a switch for polarity.  That's why I was a little curious if in the selector in my pic above does anything with that since there's flux core or solid wire settings.  I'll check out what is kept in stock at my local store.  I was reading also some on the innershield nr 212?

Reply:Thank you all, I'll get the wire swapped tomorrow and report back.  I'll start with the settings the wire manufacturer says and go from there.  I'll try to post some pics or start a new thread.

Reply:All my work is outside, and gets fairly windy here often.  Because of different locations of work, up on a building, etc I can't always have a wind block.  Right now I'm welding at my shop, but wanted flux core to practice with before I use on a job.  Ive always used stick for my work, trying to speed it up with this suitcase.

Reply:I wouldn't know that, most everything I do is agriculture related.  Not much commercial welding.  Most the commercial buildings we do are engineered and bolt up, its easier with dif city codes, permits, and faster to construct.
Reply:T-11 wires were fine and dandy here on the West Coast before the Northridge earthquake in California. That earthquake change welding here immensely! Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Well I ended up starting my project with the Hobart .045 triple 7 dusl shield wire I had.  Monday I ordered the Lincoln 211 self shielding.  It's supposed to arrive today.  I like the welds of the dual shield, for this project I'll just finish with it.  But projects away from the shop I have to use the self shielding.  All 3...Lincoln 211, 212, and Hobart 21b had to be ordered.  Nothing kept in stock near me.
Reply:Both NR211 and Fabshield 21B are easy as pie. You should be fine with either. As for your machine, that selector switch doesn't switch polarity. Like some guys said earlier, it will have a big manual selector switch or you'll have to do it manually. What I'm curious to know is, what's the difference between the flux cored and solid wire options under the CV range? I wonder if the flux one is for straight polarity, and the solid is for reverse. Anyone know? If I'm not mistaken, some flux cores run on reverse polarity, and that could be a headache waiting to happen.IW Local 580 NY, NY
