Hey guys,We just got a new Millermatic 350P MIG welder and I need to put a plug on it. I am setting it up for single phase 230v with a 6-50 plug. My question is: the power cable that comes with the machine has 4 wires - a green, black, red and white. According to the instructions, the red wire should be taped off and not used on single phase 230v. This leads me to think the green wire goes to ground on the plug, the black wire goes to the small prong and the white wire goes to the large prong. Am I correct in my thinking or do I have something mixed up?Thanks for any help!

Reply:This machine can draw up to 61 amps at 230v single phase according to Millers spec sheet. Installing a 50 amp cord end and receptacle, would be undersized and incorrect. To do it right, it needs to either be hardwired or installed with the proper size plug and recep capable of handling at least 61 amps. It looks like they recommend a 70 amp breaker or time delay fuse for the circuit.
Reply:I already moved the jumpers. As for the breaker, yes I agree. The reason I am setting it up this way is because we are moving in a couple of months and this is the outlet style we have in the shop right now. When we move it will be wired into 3 phase. Thanks for the help guys! Greatly appreciate it!
