I finally got 200A service run out to my garage, and have my first side job lined up.  The local steel place doesn't cater to the little guy anymore, so I found a small shop that lets people buy their drops for $0.50/lb.    How's that sound?  What are ya'll average Joe's just tinkering in the garage paying?Miller Syncrowave 200MillerMatic 180 AutoSetHobart Airforce 500iVictor O/A (80cf)
Reply:It's like 70 or 80 cents here unless you buy over 100 lbs then it's like 10 cents cheaper. Good selection of very usable material though (not usually random drop).Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:steel is about .60-.65 for me, ss is around 2.50-3 as is aluminum, for drop.Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:My metal supplier has a rem shelf, its .50 a pound for steel, $1.00 a pound on stainless. The sheet stock is the best deal, anything under 2x4 hits the rem rack, occasionally slightly bigger than that but 3x4 and bigger is NOT rem.Never anything long though in regular stock. The best buy I got from them was 14" pipe, it was laying around eating up space and they let me have it for .20 as they wanted it gone.
Reply:Steel is .89 per pound on drops at ALRO here... Quite outrageous IMO.
Reply:belson steel center in Bradley Illinois has a salvage yard FULL of good useable steel. full length, half length, plate you name it, steel there at the beginning of the year salvage price was like .52 or .53 I bought essentially new 3" channel iron 20 footers from them at that price. just alittle more surface rust than "new"Local 597
Reply:.53 here in SW Ohio, pretty good actually. A lot of things are rusty as hell tho, and most of the stuff that isnt, is small.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:If Drops are the same as Rems,  then I get them between 35 and 45 cents a lb at one of the local metal recyclers.  he usually has a great selection though its mostly big heavy stuff.  lots of 12" and larger I beam and channel etc.    He tends to buy up entire metal supply shops when they go out of business.   several of which have locally the last few years.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:What is "rems"? as in full definition/word? I buy drops for all over the map, haven't checked lately, but I got a wack of 3/16" plate in oddball sizes (like 23.5"x40", or 48") for .12/lb - but scrap price is only $120/ton prepared. He was super happy with my price, mostly because it was cash. That, and it's not like 1400 lbs out of the bin would make much of a dent., so scrap guys couldn't complain about contracts, etc.Bruce
Reply:Rems=remnants Ball park around .55/lb some places a little more some a little less. Scrap is often close to free. Scrap would be coupon sizes or triangles that they don't see as having a use."Liberalism is a mental disorder" Dr. Savage
Reply:Industrial metal supply in Phx has 5-8' sections of .25 wall tube and rectangle for .25 pp.
Reply:I think our average is $0.55/lb delivered.  That might be a little misleading since we buy a lot.

Reply:I pay .35 for drops, remnants, used, and sometimes they even have uncut sheet and plate, all .35 lb. They pay .06 and sell to the public for .35, Tucson Iron & Metal. Reply:.30-.40/pound on rem for me.
Reply:There's a fab shop in Richmond, VA that sells what they are scrapping for .30/lb.  Haven't been by there to see what is available.

Reply:One of the metal yards near me gets .55/lb for flat and angle, .65 for tube and 2.50 for aluminum.
