OK, doing some flux core MIG welding for a friend on a lift for a dirt bike. He wanted it 1.5 inches more narrow so I cut the tube and welded them back together. I ground down the welds and have some voids. What am I doing wrong? I'm thinking it's not enough current and too slow of a wire feed. Attached Images
Reply:so a few things. First you don't show your pre-weld joint set up. But I would have beveled this and am guessing you did not. Second you should not grind your welds. That just hides problems. But I am guessing this weld was too cold.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:It's inconsistency in your puddle control that's causing the issues you see. You need to ensure your puddle washes evenly into each side of the joint. This tube is not very thick so beveling may not be a good idea. Just run another pass over the bad areas ensuring a nice even puddle washes over the joint.Last edited by snoeproe; 10-21-2014 at 06:15 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
