For those of you who hate to junk tools before they're completely worn out...Had good luck with two small Delwalt 4.5" angle grinders I bought 3-4 years ago. One of them finally crapped out on me the other day. Since it just stopped, no smoke or grinding, I tore it apart this weekend. Bad switch, and the carbon brushes were mostly worn out.Ordered 2 switches and 4 brushes from ereplacementparts. With shipping it came to $30 give or take a $1. I thought that was a pretty good price. $15 and 30 minutes each on a grinder that's $60 new these days.Hopefully, I'll get another 4 years out of these small grinders. MIght be I could buy one at Harbor freight for less. But I'll take the tools I know and like and have had good luck with over tools from the cheapest bidder.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Just a foot note:I also ordered a bunch of flap discs from lehigh valley abrasives. Best prices I could find and according to their website they use Norton abrasives to manufacture their flap discs and wheels.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Flap discs are poo, you need to make the switch to these things, make sure you get a rubber backing pad. 5" and 36 grit seems to be the best all around.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:I like the flat discs fine for some work. x2 on your recommendation for the rubber pad. I had a plastic one that blew up on me one day when I accidentally caught the edge of the backer on another piece of steel.I'm not sure why, but I still prefer the flap discs for most of what I do. Reply:I guess it would depend on what model Dewalt you have. They have numerous models. Ace just had them for $39.00. it's sad, a lot of products are made as throw aways. |
