I do not have a set of torches yet because I am saving up for a good setup.   I came across this in the local classifieds.  It is the setup that Home Depot sells and I can pick it up for about $50.  Does anyone have experience with this setup??? I don't do alot of torch work right now and just about every thing I ever want to cut with a torch is away from home etc so the portable torch is nice.So thoughts on it???????Thanx-RustyCome try it out and stay a while.
Reply:Well I picked it up anyway. It is a brand new in the box setup with the new case etc.  Came with a very nice Harris torch.  Think I will be pleased with it.Come try it out and stay a while.
Reply:I thnk everyone was waiting for visual confirmation of what you were looking at..If it's as you describe you won't get hurt at $50... Did it come with bottles?
Reply:It was still in the box.  Came with the tanks, torch with cutting and welding tips, goggles, striker, hoses, gauges, wrench and hard ABS plastic case with bag around it.Pics below, I thought I was getting the first pic, but was surprised to find the second pic, only with Lincoln name all over it and Harris on the torch. Attached ImagesCome try it out and stay a while.
Reply:Killer deal ! The bottles alone run around$150- $200 .... Good One!

Reply:Now that's funny I don't care who you are! I saw an ad in Craigs list last week for a Hobart AC/DC welder New in the box for $325 while it wasn't a steal deal the description was priceless.Quote--- I bought it for my husband then found out he slept with my sister..screw him.

Reply:That little MC acet tank is almost no good for cutting much, because of how small it is, since you have to watch the withdrawl rate on acet. It's not bad for light heating, brazing and small O/A welding. Most likely, you'll eventually trade up to bigger bottles. At least a 40 cf "B" bottle of acet if not a 75cf, and a 60, 80 or 100cf of O2 if you plan to do cutting, as you usually use 2-3X as much O2 as acet. That said, $50 is a steal and I'd have grabbed it just to have the small bottles. The regs and torch is a bonus..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:A quick shot of the setup.  Tips, goggles striker etc are all in the front pouch.I plan to use this for quick jobs.  Now that I have the torch setup, I will look into larger tanks for the shop. Attached ImagesCome try it out and stay a while.
Reply:Great find! I wonder how long those would last let's say, cutting 1/8"."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:Got a great deal this morning at my LWS. Less than $25 for both tanks exchanged.   I have an account there so it helped and I was buying an 80CF C25 tank outright so I could have a smaller backup tank for the mig.  So I was out the door $154.  That got me an 80CF C25 with first fill, an MC ACET tank  and a 20CF O2 tank. Not a bad deal if you ask me.Come try it out and stay a while.
Reply:That size is GREAT for making a few quick cuts where you can't or don't want to carry larger tanks. You can't refill the acetylene tank from another tank, but you can make a transfill whip and refill the oxygen tank from a larger tank safely (it's done all the time by private pilots with aircraft bottles).I use small oxygen tanks and BBQ propane cylinders for salvage yard runs.
