I am welding up a frame from 6061 t6 with er5356 filler. I know that anodizing that combination will create a color match problem with the filler, I want to make sure that I will have no problem with powder coating it.Thanks,Ken
Reply:Have you tried to get a piece anodized with the 5356 rods? I always thought those were the rods to use for anodizing vs a 4043 which will turn a black color. You should have no problem with powder coating though.
Reply:Maybe I had the two fillers mixed up for anodizing. No I haven't tried it, just asking from memory and after I turned 50 that doesn't work as well as it used to.
Reply:I haven't seen any issues powder coating combinations of aluminum alloys.I will say that if it is going to be bead blasted before powder then it needs to be baked between bead blasting and powder application. If this isn't done you will see "fish eye" where imbedded beads have caused adherence issues. The only way to fix it is to blast it back to bare metal and start the process again.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:We powder coated all things imaginable from welding 6061-T6, shouldn't have any problems
Reply:4043 doesn't take to anodizing. 5356 does.I build parts from 6061 and use a mix of 4043 and 5356 and it all powder coats well.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
