Rust cleaning solutions/acetone replacement for aluminum

I bought a mbc positioner that the previous owner let rust on the deck and splatter/dust gaurd is there a chemical solution that will clean this without gouging the good material and possibly remove heat tint on stainless (looking to kill 2 birds with one stone). Also what is a good cleaner for aluminum to replace acetone ? Looking for a ready to weld finish after wire brushing of course, just curious what's out there.Thanks for the advice.

Reply:Ok I've seen some aluminum cleaner/brightener at my lws and was wondering if it is any good.
Reply:The aluminum cleaner/brighteners are not degreasers the are corrosive etching chemicals that usually contain some nasty chemicals like hydroflouric acid and they are tricky to use.
Reply:Ok I'll be picking up some of the alchohol. What about stainless heat tint?
Reply:They make pickling compounds.  They too contain hydroflouric acid but are generally easier to use as they are a paste and the exposure times aren't critical.
Reply:do you have a photo of it? can you take the deck off and machine a few thou off and have brand new metal?

Reply:As far as the positioner goes I've got it tore apart cleaned and inspected I'll prob just take a roloc disk to it being very careful, I wish but don't have the means to machine in down.
Reply:White vinegar worked for me.
Reply:Glass bead blasting removes almost no material but you have to disassemble everything.
