First off, I'm a noobie.  The engineer in me has always been wanting to make stuff with metal.  I've decided it's time for me to get a welder and put some time into learning it.  I've got a rear garage with a convenient sub panel that I know I can easily add a 50amp 220v plug to. Problem is, there's only a 2' slab and then my grass yard.  Would I have to worry about starting a fire?  At least here, I can weld without blinding neighbors.  In the front garage/driveway I would have access to an unused 30amp dryer plug so I could just make myself an extension, but now I'm welding in the driveway and people walk and drive by in our neighboorhood.I don't think I'd ever be loading this up to take to a friends house.  I'm questioning my need for 110v since I have access to 220v.  Are we paying a lot of money for the 110v feature in the dual voltage models?  If I want to weld thin stuff, is 110 better for that or can 220 do everything that 110 can?The klutch looks like a great deal, but like they say, you get what you pay for, and I can't really find any other info or reviews on that welder. It's nice too see how many posts there are in the Lincoln sub forum and there's not even a subforum for Klutch.I will be welding steel but do want to also be able to weld aluminum (upto 3/16?).Now that I've discovered the Lincoln PowerMig 210, I don't see the point in the Hobart.  What makes the Lincoln (with the spool gun) worth almost twice as much as the Klutch?  Is it stuff that a beginner like me will notice?  Is it stuff that will help me learn?I read the Lincoln PowerMig 210 thread and people post about not being able to use certain diameter wires, sticks, etc which I'm sure other welders have there specific issues too.  Are these exotic wires/sticks that somebody like me, just getting into welding, would never use or are they common? Thanks for the help!
Reply:I was thinking about both of these too. If you want to mig only go hobart. If you want to tig stick or mig get the lincoln.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:I have the predecessor to the Klutch machine, the Northern Industrial 200 amp Hybrid mig, tig, stick machine.I am very happy with it. I believe it is the same machine, basically - just rebranded, and given a face lift.I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. As a matter of fact, I plan on adding the Klutch 250 mig to my garage.I have welded in pressure vessel shops and chemical plants around Houston for years, if that adds any credibility to what I thinkLast edited by geezerbill; 11-24-2014 at 12:49 PM.Hobart Beta-Mig 2511972 Miller AEAD-200LEMiller 250 TwinNorthern Ind. Reply:The only wire/rod issue is with cellulose flux cored stick rods(6010).   It's common problem to many inverters. But as I doubt you are doing code work.  You can use 6011 in it's place and have no problems.   Honestly if you needed to sick weld heavy plate for penetration or strength you would be better using 7018 anywayTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:I was just in the same boat, wanted a welder for years for various projects and was trying to decide between the hobart, miller, or power mig..  After reading various forums for weeks I decided to go with the power mig, if for nothing else I love the added ability to stick weld..  Although if thats the route you go I hope you are not in a hurry to get it, i've been waiting 2 weeks so far, and the last email I sent requesting an update I was told I still had about 3 weeks to wait.
