http://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/auc...ew?auc=1256054Public auction in Washington. Older machine, I know.Anything good/bad about it?Can't tell if its single or 3 phase. Were they made both ways?I know the vintage stuff holds a special place in the hearts of some (I've read Minnesota Dave's posts!)I have an older Miller DialArc 250 and I'm happy with it.Add this to the fleet?(Or, FYI for any others interested)Thanks,DB

Reply:Mine has been great over the years. Taught myself how to tig with it although still not very good. It welds cast iron beautifully with Ni rod too with proper pre, and post heating as I've put many diesel engine manifolds back together with it.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:Hmmm, looks like I'll be following this auction...Thanks for the info.(I couldn't find any auctions with the Miller equipment shown in the background)DB
Reply:As stated all are single phase. This one is newer, current control uses a pcb and a scr assembly. Will use the brand new Lincoln foot control if you move the plug from the old foot control to the new one. Circle plug only units. Older units with two plugs for remote control, sends the full mag amp control current through the foot control. Melts the new foot controls.
Reply:Yeah, price is creeping up: $160 now with 5 days left- then there's often a flurry of last minute bidding. This site kinda sucks because if there is activity towards the end they extend the closing time- drags it out and doesn't assure that high bid at end time of auction is winner
Watching, though. If it stays within range suggested here I will probably throw my hat in the ring.DBLast edited by labparamour; 11-23-2014 at 07:47 PM.Reason: Typo

Reply:Wait, I would still need to know how to weld? I thought a vintage machine like this would almost drive itself and make up for my inabilities.I really do want to become proficient....
Reply:It really is pretty easy to use. Here is one on ebay all set up and probably ready to go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lincoln-Idea...item2597b1bb13SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....

Reply:Hmm, a road trip to sunny Huntington Beach, leaving behind the damp, soggy, Pacific Northwest?Maybe you guys could find me a machine in Hawaii or the Bahamas...?I'm Home Depot's ideal consumer- they show a cool project then I bite and get all the tools they sell!I see all the neat projects and lovely welds on WW or vids by Jody and, well,...I can stick two pieces of metal together but want to do better than that. I have machines that will work and need to discipline myself to taking the time and practicing more.Do I need another welder?-no, do I want another welder? Heck yeah, I'm a guy! Will continue to watch this local machine and use these soggy months to spend more time in the shop running beads.DB
Reply:Sorry if this is a hijack, but how do these Lincolns compare to a Miller Syncrowave 300? I've always used/bought Lincoln, but from what I gather, there are more Miller SW fans than fans of the Lincolns. Thanks!Edit: I see that I'm a "Solderer". Is that above or below "JB Welder"?

Reply:The idealarc is just over $500 now with about 6 hrs to go. Will continue to watch but may opt to double down and go for Everlast or equiv since I have the Dialarc already and love it.
Reply:Well, bid a couple times but lost. Sold for $580...Will search around the forum to see about adding a hi-freq to the top of my DialArc 250.Have a good weekend,DB
Reply:I'd never let mine go for that but I do know the history of it. The one in WA, I don't. Trouble is, I never can find what I want when wanted for a decent priceSlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:So I'm not the only one who finds something for less or on sale the day after I've bought it?I see a Lincoln hi-freq unit on WW for sale...need to investigate if it would work with my DialArc...May be an option.DB |
