extension weld cables

Wanted longer cables for my stick welder.  Got all the stuff including the DINSE connectorsand though about this.each end of the extension cables has a copper lug that the existing ground and stinger clamp onto.Opposite end has another stinger and ground.each lead adds 25ft of #2.I tried it only once with about 80 amps and saw no problem.So how crazy is it?I was going to bolt the lugs to another piece of copper but they seem to do ok by themselves.millermatic 130XPharbour freight 180 amp mig with added caps.hobart stickmate ac/dcpowerarc 200
Reply:you see that often enough and it works but there's nothing more frustrating when someone trips and disconnects your lead/ground while you're making a critical weld. especially when you're working off a float or scaffold. stick to the ball point connectors. imvhoi.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:If you are on a job that has a safety man there is a good chance he will not let you do it this way. You are not suppose to have exposed terminals or connectors. It all depends how close they are looking.
Reply:I am just a hobby welder.  Actually I prefer to explain myself by example.How many of you guys have seen red green the Canadian show about the crazy guy who duct tapes all manner of whacky things.I am this guy, but I work in crappy welds instead of duct tape.  Never anything that can harm if it fails.I just like being able to dream up some metal creation and make it happen.example:  this cooking grill that I madeI know this mickey mouse stuff wouldn't cut it where welding is done for money but I was just wonderingif the experts though it would work reliably.millermatic 130XPharbour freight 180 amp mig with added caps.hobart stickmate ac/dcpowerarc 200
Reply:I would remove the lugs and put on the dinse connectors you said u had.
Reply:I've done it that way before and my grandfather has for years . I see no problem extending your leads that way for your own home use.
