I have a brand new SP-20 (WP-20) water cooled torch.  The water/power cable has a 7/8" LH thread connection.I have been looking at a new inverter type welder to replace an old transformer type buzz box.  All of the inverter type welders I have looked at have DINSE connections of either 50mm or 25mm size.My question is, "What is this MM size refering to?"  All of the male ends look the same on pictures I have found on the internet.  I did find the following adaptor from Welding Direct.comDinse Connector Water - Side Flow-Thru w/HosePart Number 511N0145 from Welding Direct.comhttp://www.weldingdirect.com/flowwatdinst.htmlWhen I look at this connector, I see the male DINSE connection and a 7/8" LH connection for my torch.  If what I am seeing is correct, I should be able to hook my torch to this adaptor and plug into any inverter type welder equipped with the DINSE style connections.Am I correct?  Or will I need to toss this torch/replace power hose, etc. Thanks,Butch W.
Reply:You are correct.  That adapter allows you to use your Series 20 torch on a welder which uses a 50mm dinse (international-style) connector.Miller part # for their adapter (think it's made for them by Lenco) is 195 377.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:Thanks.I also found a WeldTech Q5W connector that showed a good exploded view of the cover and connection. It appears that the male end is the same on all of these.  Still don't know what the manufacturers are refering to by the MM size.  I'll order a connector today. Thanks again,Butch W.
Reply:Trying to figure this out....what does the 50mm mean is it the wire cross section maybe? My issue is that I'm finding torches that are for dinse 50 or dinse 25 connectors...I have the TA fabricator 211i and I think it has the dinse 50mm but what diameter is the part that goes into the machine. I've seen 1/2" (12.7mm) and I've seen 9.1mm (or so I forget the exact size)Do I need the 1/2" one for my machine?

Reply:The mm does refer to the wire cross section.  Common sizes are the "25" (16- 25 mm2 wire) and the "50" (35-50 mm2 wire).  Plugs are roughly 11/32" and 1/2" respectively. Reply:On a general note, if you are looking at a 230V machine from somewhere other than harbor freight, it will most likely be the 50mm.  I believe the Miller multimatic is an exception to this, and there may be a few others. The Fabricator 211i does have Dinse 50 connections.  Mine even came with a 50 to 25 adapter.  The male end of the two looks identical, just a matter of size.Multimatic 200Ellis 1800Haberle S225 9" cold sawMM 300;  Spoolmate 30A w/ WC-24TB 302GDynasty 280 DX Tigrunner

Reply:Bump up from the dead.Is there such thing as a 35 series DINSE?  I have an everlast machine and they list it as that.I'm thinking its just a 50mm, and to get a Weldcraft WP-17 torch to work I would mostly likely need this adapter?http://store.cyberweld.com/tigtopoadflt.html
Reply:Yes its called the Dinse 35-50 or 1/2"www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:That adapter is specifically designed for use with a "Gas-through" welding machine. These types of machines don't have a gas output connection to hook up a tig torch gas hose to.The gas exits through the dinse connector, then gets to the torch.Rich
