I was wondering if anyone used Arctec 223 rod? It is my fav at the moment. Is there something comparable or better in the major brands. I like the high quality rods and don't mind the extra cost.
Reply:Never used it before, what series of rods is it - 60xx or 70xx?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Ive used ArcTec 223 quite a bit, it is pretty expencive to buy though (55 canadian around here). Its funny I was thinking about posting about it too. ArcTec 223XC is a low hydrogen electrode that can be used AC or DC. With its easy start and stops, smooth arc and beautful appearance it can make anyone look like a pro. It can be used for mild steel, or cast iron. Great for building up worn parts. Crack resistant deposits. Man does it lay down a mean bead. I used it last night matter of fact, each pass was easily cleaned. Oh ya up to 85,000 psi. Heres the website. www.arctecalloys.com
Reply:Could it be a Canadian thing? I don't see any US info on the package, but a list of Candian outlets is there.
Reply:Yes, i belive its made in calgary, alberta. Ive used their SMAW gougeing rods before (arctec 88) its pretty neat, it requires no air. The rod has a High carbon content, it makes it so the steel burns up faster than the flux on the rod, creating a jet action. Its like arc blow times 1000. You run it 10 degrees off the material and almost a sawing action to push the molten puddle out. Kinda smokey for indoors but nice for if your not around an air supply and needed to prep up a joint.     So come on, anyone use Their products?
Reply:I distrust all off brands that do not carry AWS numbers.  I had a rod salesman try to sell me expensive rod.  He had a lady sales associate with him.  I was told by someone watching that as he did the pitch the female undid the top button of her blouse.   It went completely by me.  NO SALE!   I guess they figured subliminal suggestion might work.
Reply:I was looking at the website and looks like their products conform to AWS standards. I have tried the 223 rod before and it does run really nice! I noticed that they have quite a few different other products too, which can be useful.BIZ, Journeyman Welder, Mechanical Designer

Reply:Arctec is all I use with my homemade AC welder.  I use 222. I think that 223 has a flux that is less susceptible to absorbing moisture. But the rod I love is their UNICROM.  It is excellent for thin tubing as roll bars and ss muffler systems.  $$$
