Im looking at what can be a good deal , or a nightmarehttp://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/tls/4799413673.htmlWhat do you guys think Im willing to spend the time and money if the unit can be fixed properly but have no clue how to proceed
Reply:Definitely low ball him, lol. You won't come out winning if you have to spend $2000 to fix it. By then you're at $5500. To come out on top, max would be $3500-$4000, including the fix. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:You should call a miller repair shop and ask a mechanic what are the common problems with these and how much does it usually cost to fix. This is why you should get a transformer.
Reply:I would be willing to bet this machine has already been checked out by a repair shop. Who just dumps a 6,000$ machine. This guy is looking for someone to take a ride. I would offer him 50 cents a pound just to see his reaction.
Reply:2008 build means it is a non-"Blue Lightning" arc start model. 6 years and dead means it could cost up to $2000 to fix. The price the seller is asking is for one in perfect working order, not dead. I have a dead 2008 Dynasty350DX with serial #LJ as well that blew out the IGBTs. LWS felt sorry for me and gave me $3000 of a new 700DX. This was right after Fukushima and Miller was backordered on repair parts. Honestly the dude could have spent $175 to get a diagnosis. If it were cheap to fix he would have. Good Luck with your decision. Reply:Did They ever give you a quote on fixing your 350?
Reply:I completely agree with the others, if it was a cheap fix he would have fixed it. Who throws a $6k Welder away just to get a new one without getting g it checked? Pass it up man, not worth that big of a loss
Reply:i was thinking about this welder or just go and buy a brand new d280dx o well d280 it is

Reply:Keeping in mind that some 350s don't have blue lightning (and thus worth less even if working).Humans are bad at estimating risk. They see shiny thing at end of tunnel and go for it.First, something is not right with the ad!! Who buys a 350 without a water cooler? Very few! So where is the water cooler?Second, in one of the pictures it's clear the power cord has been removed from the machine. Someone opened the cover (tech?) and knows exactly what went wrong and how much it will cost (minimum) to fix it. The picture suggest something wrong with input power.Third, it looks like this thing was hooked to 3-phase - or someone just chopped the cable off. That means professional shop (not home use). So how did he end up with it?I suspect he got it from work. They already looked at it and decided it was too expensive/risky to fix and just got another power supply. He took it home off the scrap heap. Miller could probably verify from serial number. My bet repair cost were north of $2000.So the ad basically says. Here's a machine, that if working perfectly, would be worth $3500 (good luck getting more for a used one). Complete and total risk as to whether or not you can fix it... for $2900 + parts. The good news is that when a piece of electronics is completely dead, its often power supply related (check the 110V outlet on the back to see if it works). I suspect every circuit board in the box goes for $800 (I'd budget $1000 and expect to replace two). So lets say the guy sells it to you for $500 and it takes $2500 to get it working again. Then what? You have $3000 into a box that might be worth $3500 on the open market. $500 is not a lot of profit for quite a bit of hassle. Your time is probably better spent finding more work for the shop (even if you totally fail at that).Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:With the exception of members here that is not a homeowner garage machine. As mentioned it was probably lifted from his or a buddies workplace. An oppurtunist sees nothing but dollar signs. It would be cool to have the numbers off that machine to see a history.
Reply:Serial Number is LJ090887L , Im curious if someone could get a historical check |
