I have a JD2 notcher. My question is, how do you line up a pipe so that both notched ends are in the exact same plane? Any tips?I tried laying the pipe flat and drawing a line on top with a straight edge, but it's not too accurate. I know there's gotta be a better way. Reply:I use channel, legs down, as a straight edge. clamp it and mark.
Reply:I have a Flange Wizard which I think you can get them cheaper. http://xraymachinese.com/centering-h...nghead-w-vial/ Attached ImagesDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:i usually use the seam inside and then mark top of tube.of course dont work with seamless then its out with a length of angle.
Reply:I've had one of these for a very long time. http://www.clmi.us/portfolio/900-mir...se-protractor/ They have a couple of dial options also.Mine is in the metal box (optional) when not in use to keep the junk off the magnets. Spendy, but you'll only buy one in a lifetime.Notching. I usually place it somewhere near center of the pipe, punch mark to save the finder location, notch, remove so it's not knocked off handling the pipe, set pipe for next notch, install finder and aquire angle, notch. That's been working for me. If I had to buy again now, I'd probably go a digital setup that clamps on the pipe to save the on/off of the finder. Those that I looked at run pretty close price wise.Just my 2c, but like most things (opinions and tools), you get what you pay for. |
