I had some kids using this welder and I think they might have stuck the rod to the work and let it run too long in that state. Anyway, for a while it would run for a short time then it would quit working. It was difficult to stabilize the arc. Now it's completely dead. You can't strike an arc at all. Is there something I can check, like maybe an internal fuse or something? Any help would be appreciated. This is one of those umbiquitous red, tombstone-looking AC stick welders. It's not very old. Several years maybe, but it's seen a lot of use.
Reply:Unplug the welder and pull the back off. Look and the range switch. You will most likely find a damaged switch. You will need a large soldering iron or a propane torch to solder in a new switch. Do not cut the wires, cut the little tab then unsolder the wire and move it tot he new switch one at a time. If the switch contacts are good but the shaft is damaged. The shaft is replaceable. |
