My old regulators were like oxy / acetylene regulators. My new one that came with the Dynasty 280 is the little tower, a ball rises higher with greater flow. Not that it matters, I set it where I get a minimum of black goo without wasting argon. When I read the scale, is it the top of the ball I line up with, or the middle?

Reply:Being a Miller/Smith, I would guess that's what you received, they read in the middle of the ball."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:How about just looking at the relationship between the ball and the zero mark when there is no flow thru the meter?  Mine lines up at the top of the ball. Take care. BurtHF DUAL MIG 171 w/ Multiple Mods.WSME-200 AC/DC TIG PULSE/MMACUT-50 PLASMA

Reply:If in doubt use the middle of the ball. That way you will get half the error you would get if you read the bottom when you should have read the top and vice versa.

Reply:wb4rt: Actually it is short for Burton. You are ahead on posts but I have you on years. LOL. Thanks for the welcome. I do have one of the flow meter measurement tools on order so I can check both TIG and MIG flows. Take care. Burt (K4MTV).HF DUAL MIG 171 w/ Multiple Mods.WSME-200 AC/DC TIG PULSE/MMACUT-50 PLASMA

Reply:I have three on stationary machines branded L-Tec so I don't know the manufacturer, but I've always set them to the top of the ball and not had problems. Reply:Yow! I think I'll stick(!) with my gauged flow meter. -c-
Reply:When first I started reading this post I purchased one of these units, (Oxweld p/n 19043) for about $40 bucks delivered.  Reason being, I have three of the flowmeters and wanted to see how accurate they were.  My Smith units were right on the nuts but my Victor unit was off by about 8 scfh all being read on the appropriate scales for the type of gas used.  Then I started to wonder, how accurate is this tester?  Just putting this out there for the curiosity of the subject.   Bob
