I have an old SMITH acetylene regulator. Just got setup for first time. Leaking in a dramatic fashion. I just opened up and found a mess. The only number I can make out is  - H520A-300. Anyone know if parts are available? Looked at SMITH web site but did not see anything on this number or old models.Seems if all rubber is replaced would be usable. Will any crude that may have let loose blow through the torch or should I take off torch and flush lines, handle, and all?
Reply:Talk to Jim ( OAdoctor)  at Regulator and Torch Exchange. If parts are available he can probably get them. They do a great job on reg rebuilds.http://www.regulatortorchrepair.com/repairservices.php.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:+1 for the OAdoctor. Pm, message, call or email them. Great company.
Reply:Thanks - I have an e-mail in to them and later found what I think is the correct kit. No longer supported by Smith, so import? Cost is around $45 for a few bits. I think I got the reg for not much, but is it worth it or just.go new or newer? This one may.be 1950's!Correct number - H1520A-300Last edited by rhode-rage; 03-24-2016 at 09:02 PM.Reason: Correction to the correction
Reply:$45 is about what they wanted to rebuild one of my regs from what I recall. Being the reg isn't supported by Smith any longer, it might not be worth rebuilding it as chances will just get slimmer on getting it rebuilt at a later date. Jim can probably give you a better idea if it's worth rebuilding or not. he's pretty straight forward on stuff like this. He may even have a rebuilt reg he can sell you that might be a better investment..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Good suggestion. Will followup with Jim tomorrow see what the options are. Thing lasted this long, with a total rebuild should last my lifetime,.....Thanks

Reply:This gauge is indeed a classic and hope to repair. The low pressure 30psi gauge, with glass face is fine. The high side is a 200psi gauge, not as old. What is the correct high pressure gauge for acetylene, and does it change with tank or torch size? What are the correct gauges for oxygen?   My oxygen is a vintage Smiths with low 200psi, and high is 3000.
