So I'm two weeks and 7 lbs filler through my everlast power tig 250ex. I really enjoy it so far. Not a single glitch so far (except I hooked up gas/water wrong).I've played with all the setting and like the pulse alot. I've never tig'd so there was a learning curve, steep at that. I'm able to edge weld 1/16" aluminum on end with 1/16 filler. (Barely, and crappy at that) So the machine seems to be doing its part just fine. Did the whole razor blade thing, I think the machine made up for my extreme lack of tig ability by being able  to low pulse with very few amps. I'm going to stretch some leads out and see how it runs 7018 with 200' of lead...built a water cooler, (bucket with pump) building a cart this weekend for it and my high speed water cooler. I'm going to build R.C. parts so I need to be able to tig small..
Reply:Show some pics of your welds.  I actually find small things to be easier than large personally, but that's probably just me.  Are you running with a pedal? or just preset amps and moving along?  One thing I can recommend that's helped as I've been learning is to just practice the movement without welding at all and try to maintain distance, torch angle, filler feeding, etc... without any arc.  Just practicing the movement without worrying about the puddle, heat, etc... helped me get that part down, then adding in the puddle and arc is a bit easier.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Good advice. I'll post pics in the am
Reply:I do the same thing wintermute to make sure everything is comfy. Yes let's see some of your welds. Man I hope you got a 280 or 336 bottle with all the practice your putting in. Try a #5 cup at 10 cfh. I love it and it saves gas!
Reply:AKweldshop will post pics, I can't from my Windows phone for some reason... I do have a 330 and 84 bottle. More if needed.. I only have 2 collets, 2 #6 cups. I bought some cups but they were the wrong size. So, I have very few consumables for the torch. I do manage to dip the tungsten about every other second....so my tungsten are about gone. Oh well, I can always buy tungsten at my lws for twice the price as anywhere else...
Reply:this is my practice/warmup piece. or I use it to change a setting. theres probably 3 pounds of weld on here.. Attached Images
Reply:This is about as small as I can do without the weld either falling off, or completely blowing the corner away. I did it with 3/32 tungsten and 1/16 filler. How can I get it to lay smooth?Last edited by shaynoak; 01-08-2015 at 03:58 AM.
Reply:963061[/this is my $9 cooler setup. I have a bypass setup so the pump never dead heads trying to push water through the torch hose. It works, stays cool. I ran it all night last night to see what would happen. Still works fine. Its not fancy, but it works. Those are my guns in the pic in the background. Reply:this is my razor attempt..... they held. I wasn't really sure what the hell I was supposed to do, I hadn't actually ever seen it done or a picture of it done.
Reply:Attachment 963081This is a better outside corner I managed to do.
Reply:You need to get a stainless steel wire wheel for your 4” grinder to clean that aluminum just before welding. And don't use that stainless steel wheel for anything but aluminum! Reply:Zen? Haha, I'm kinda a spaz so me and Zen don't work together. I'm trying though, tig welding is nice because it does let me focus some. I will admit that my filler feeding looks like someone having a seizure.... so if I could just feed smoothly.... I figure another 20 lbs....credit to john, aka akweldshop. He stopped by a gave me a few great pointers. That kid will be a great welder someday. He is already a good welder.

Reply:Not sure on how much psi I'm running. It's enough to keep the torch cool. The pump is from ebay, I originally had it for another project. It's very quiet and the motor only gets about 125-135 degrees. Maybe a gallon a minute.. no antifreeze for now, this is temporary,  I'm researching which cooler to get.
