I just pick up the welder and it will start if I spray cleaner in the carb.  It did not come with a tank or regulator.  I try to hook up the tank from the grill using the grill regulator/hose.Setup: Tank -> grill regulator -> 12v valve/switch  -> some canister -> regular fuel line -> another regulator (I think) -> carbWhen I put 12v to the 12v valve I do not get gas?  Should I?Or should the 12v valve have full tank pressure with NO regulated pressure? Thanks for any advice.
Reply:Hello ziegler. Some info for you."FuelA lift truck type coupler is provided on the supplied fuel line for easy hand attachment to a lift truck type LPG fuel cylinder. The fuel cylinder must meet D.O.T. Specification 4E-240. The valve on the fuel cylinder must be installed on the outlet marked “LIQUID”.The engine will not develop full power if connected to the vapor outlet.""Note: The Ranger 8 LPG cannot be used with vapor draw LP gas cylinders such as those used for recreation vehicles, trailers, grilles, and boats."Look up Lincoln Operator Manual IM510, IM525, or IM604.Cheers!
Reply:The hose I have has a 1/4 male fitting.  Is that what a stand fork lift tank would take?
Reply:The 1/4 male fitting screws into the connector he mentioned . A reducer bushing may be required. Though your Lincoln dealer can get these you best bet is to go to a real propane deal, not a cylinder exchange outlet. Another option would be a lift truck, fork lift, dealer. You'll need the correct tank also. These places should have them in stock. It could get a little pricey. If you live out in the sticks a supply company such as McMmaster-Carr can hook you up. Reply:zieglerThe 1/4" fitting is not going to allow you to get "liquid" propane to your fuel system. The fuel system wants liquid propane, only deliverable from the correct fitting on the correct type of propane tank. This is what you need to connect from your Ranger 8 to a proper propane fuel supply. Reply:ziegler - You don't say whether the Ranger has the Onan or Kohler but the principles are still the same for running on LP.Engine maximum fuel consumption dictates whether or not vapor or liquid withdrawal is required and I can tell you for certain that Ranger 8 can operate from vapor off a BBQ tank - although not for long due to its storage capacity and as such I wouldn't recommend it for a permanent set up.However, you can to test the unit but if you use the hose from the BBQ regulator too, you must make sure the restriction orifice for the BBQ is out of the loop as it will not allow enough vapor flow for the engine to run.  You'll also have to have the regulator adjusted to maximum.  You could flip the tank over for liquid withdrawal (yes, you can do that) but the line would likely quickly freeze up immediately after the orifice if it's still in the line.I'm not 100% up on the specific Lincoln LP setup and without any photos I have to presume the "some canister" you refer to is a combination 2-stage regulator/vaporizer.  Does it have a series of fins on it?  The "another regulator (I think)" is likely what's known as a power block which is an adjustable orifice for controlling maximum vapor flow into the fuel mixer (carb).A 2-stage regulator reduces tank pressure (vapor or liquid) to a lower pressure that the second stage can then control and deliver to the engine.  At the same time the liquid is allowed to boil off and vaporize so that it can be used by the engine for combustion.  For air cooled engines, the vaporizer will have fins to allow it to absorb ambient heat to prevent freeze up as the liquid boils off in the first stage regulator. If you're getting 12vdc to the valve (known as a fuel lock) and it's in fact opening, the engine should start and run if the BBQ regulator is adjusted to maximum output pressure.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:one should take the lines off and check for bugs or nests if the lines have been open in the summer time. my stand-by wouldnt start this winter. blew my mind everything worked but no propane. guess i left the line open sometime since the last run and something built a nest of small leaves in one of the lines.2 days before i found it in the last line i removed. old man blamed it on the controls. WRONG
Reply:With the correct tank it started right up.Thank you all.
Reply:Thanks for the update and it's good to hear problem solved.I've actually run my Bobcat off a small BBQ tank in a pinch but have to remove the orifice fitting and crank the regulator all the way up.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
