25 bucks don't buy much.   Once in a while I just can't pass em up. Attached Images
Reply:Good findLincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:Thanks. A CL find. They only had three items of the five posted with no mention of the others. 10 bucks a piece. Called and found out about the rest. Got all five for 25. They would've taken 20 but............... I just couldn't see me doing that, considering.
Reply:It is a disease really, I find my self buying that stuff just because it is a deal On a side note if you call Hoarders on me I will kill youDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I prefer to think of it as only an addicition.  I only wanted the indicator holder.  Oh well. P.S. Dont worry 'bout me calling anyone. IF you promise not to utter hoarder or any derivitive of that within earshot of the W.
Reply:My partying days are long over. Haven't touched a drop of alchohol in 7 years. Estate sales and Flea markets for my fix. Nice find. I'll post up my latest fix soon.

Reply:While y'all are chatting about deals on said measure stuff, anyone rebuild motors? Curious if any brands lesser to something like Mitutoyo are adequate for measurements requiring some "finesse" - or if I'm being a cheap-*** and should just save up for the good stuff and be done with it.Bruce

Reply:Originally Posted by millratMotors or engines? Engines - yes. Transmissions - yes. Differentials - yes. Mitutoyo?  I'm going to guess you have. They make lots of quality stuff. Japaneese manufacturing has come a LOOOONG way since the 60"s. That's where they were then, like China was 10 or so years ago. China has a ways to go yet regarding quality, for hourly folks having to fork out of pocket $ for end user stuff. IMHO. Second hand - I don't have any qualms with a "recognized" name on a purchase. At least that money goes into our economy [ref above]. It's a matter of personal choice for you. The Central dial indicator I have has served me well for over 35 years. I've used it for rebuilding automotive components to rough setting the components of $3M+ machine line equipment, spec'd at +/- 0.001 to +/- 0.0001 and verified optically using K&E or Brunson equipment. 'Course, that was when I had better sight to split between the dial lines by ten. I took a lot of poo - poo's over that brand for a long time.Sorry I got a little long winded, but I hope that helps.
Reply:Starrett is the most common to find. IMHO their QC has diminished over the last two decades or so. That, based on the "old timers" stuff I've seen and compaired to the stuff I've bought new in the last 20 years. The term "Hardened" was common on the old stuff but not now. Now you have to look for it. Occasional use -  it's not a big deal. Are you looking to do all aspects or just specific dimentions? Small engines or automotive? All?  Micrometers  - inside [with rods] and outside [1 to 6 inch - set of six - with standards], dial indicator(s) and magnetic base(s) - (flexible is nice). Depending on further checking, depth micrometer, bore guage and degree wheel. The bore guage will be the most spendy, as they're not as common in the used market.Standards for the inside mics............ I haven't seen any "good" deals but hten again I haven't looked hard.If you or a friend has a metrology dept at work, they may be helpful for calibration checks, so you wouldn't need any standards.
