I bought the 10 amp dewalt for class, and was pleasantly surprised, I really put it through a lot and it was a champ... alas, it grew legs and went off on it's own.. So I bought a Milwaukee 11 amp, and I think it's GREAT! However I keep reading that metabo is just leaps and bounds better. So I would like to know if someone out there has used both and can comment...  I like the Milwaukee since I have 2 service centeres where I live so incase anything goes wrong, I have the 5 year warrenty....
Reply:I haven't used a recent Milwaukee but I have 3 Metabos and they are great. The Milwaukees and the less expensive Metabos are made in China; the better Metabos are made in Germany and priced accordingly.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Similar to the pros and cons of buying an import machine, the availability of service is an important consideration. I'm off topic, since I don't own either, but just throwing in my .02 on the service aspect and then some.I don't know if the Milaukee brand has fallen to the "cut corners to stay competive" disease, but every one of their products I have owned or used over the years have never let me down. The batteries on a cordless driver/drill died off sooner than I expected, and I was disappointed, but the tool itself was robust in build quality and had a real good chuck (the usual weak point). The initial investment is much lower here though, I suppose between $1-200 ish. To step down further, I recently added a 7A Dewalt to add to the 2 4A HF and Lowe's Task force trio and am tickled with the 7. But for between $20 and $50 each, if they last for a while and s#%ts the bed, its an experiment in experience.I've become a much better grinder than welder along the way so far, so they get some work!!Last edited by jtcnj; 11-16-2012 at 08:09 PM.Reason: shpelllingLincoln AC/DC 225/125 and WP17. 75A AC is for pipe thawing!HH 140 - new addtion 9/2012.I didn't agree, but hoped for Hope and Change.I got change for myself and my family: for the worse. This is the reality of: Barackalypse Now. Reply:We have a German made Metabo at school. I have a Milwaukee, dewalt, and Hitachi at home and see very little difference between them. The Metabo does run smooth but it is no faster at removing material than my three grinders at home. One plus on the Metabo is it fits my small arthritic hands a little better. Reply:I have 4 Dewalts I use at home. Work just fine, but do heat up if you over work them. I've use Metabo on the job sites and love them. Smooth, nice feel and if you over work them they have circuitry to shut itself down to prevent damage to the grinder. They, Metabo, used to give you a grinder if you purchase a case of grinding disks.

Reply:Thanks guys, I'll stick with the milwaukee, I enjoyed using it so I believe if you enjoy using your tool, you should stick with it... And if it bugs out, I got 5 years of free service... Anyone know if this covers brushes and repacking the grease?

Reply:The best grinder that I have seen is a Fein. I won't buy one though because I don't like the new three finger start system. I have been through three of the Matabos. All of them are the German manufactured models. They run nice and fast and are a little lighter than the competition in the 6" class at least. I bought a new Milwaukee because both of the Metabos were in the shop. The Milwaukee came with a 3 year warranty. It lasted about three months. I took it into the local Milwaukee shop and they fixed it for no charge, but I didn't have the grinder for about a month. I haven't found a grinder that lasts more than two years.
Reply:I have a cheapo clarke 4.5 inch angle grinder that draws 7 amps.  I have had it for a couple of years.  It doesn't get every day use, but when it gets used, it gets used.  Lately it's been a combination of a cup brush/disk/cutting wheel.  It has always done whatever I have needed it to do. I would say it's probably one of the best cheap tools I have ever used.I have only one experience with the Kawasaki line of tools from Tractor Supply, with an abrasive cut off saw, and it did not end well.  I made two cuts with it and the cut was so out of alignment that the blade was cutting into the saw base.Tractor Supply, however, was EXCELLENT in making good on their 30 coverage period by way of refund.
Reply:I've seen this Kawasaki grinders fail first day of welding class!! Lol
Reply:I have the $99 Milwaukee from HD, I believe its 11 amps, one of the 4.5" ones and let me say that I absolutely LOVE it. Hands down the best grinder I've ever used, and also my first experience with Milwaukee tools. It has a TON of power, it couldn't use any more because a 4.5" wheel can only eat so much metal, its also VERY well made, atleast it feels like it. IMHO it has a higher-quality feel than my milwaukee or the dewalts I've used, it has a very nice weight, its well balanced, has soft start, and the plastic feels like it can take a lot of abuse. Its no where near as smooth as my Makita vibration wise, but still not shaky at all. I'd buy another if this one ever quits. Actually, I might buy another couple anyway in time.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009

Reply:Nice! I'm thinking of buying the 5" 13 amp milwaukee for HD, it's an online order... I really am100% happy with the milwaukee, lol never thought id spend so much time debating on grinders.. It consumed much of my time. Next ill buy a fien grinder, when I'm act making money welding..
Reply:I own three $10 (when bought with a coupon)  Harbor Freight Grinders, I have a different style disc in each of them.  The extended warranties were cheap.I do not depend on these tools for a living.  I use them to pursue a hobby. They are disposable at that price.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:Bought a HF for a wire wheel, lasted me 20min of my SMAW class on a pipe to plate project.... lol took it back with the quickness, plan on trying to find a Black Friday deal on a hatachi or bosch for a back up.
Reply:I have several Milwaukees on my truck, and some are the 11A or 11.5A (whatever) 4.5"ers.  They run fine if they're under your direct supervision.  I have also seen at least 3 of them with the armatures burnt out from abuse - too expensive to be worth fixing although I no longer remember the pricing details.I plan to try either Fein or Metabo when one of my Milwaukees gives up the ghost.
Reply:I was using my Milwaukee off the service trailer today. It does not have the power of the metabo. I will buy more metabo grindersMillermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer

Reply:It is the 11 amp model. Granted it is a year older. The Milwaukee got warm faster and bogged down easier.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:I haven't bought any of the newer milwaukee stuff yet but everything electrical in my box is red and I love them!
Reply:I got 20+ years old electric tools from Metabo, Milwaukee, Makita, Bosh and Hilti and none ever quit. I purchase new Milwaukee tools and found out Bosh are identical, came from the same factory in China and are cheaper to buy, that's why I now check for identical Bosh before getting a Milwaukee. even if the last one offert a 5 years instead of a 3 years waranty. If I ever have to get a new grinder I check for a Hilti (Hight performance series) first, a Metabo (Made in germany) in second and finaly  a Bosh or a Milwaukee but I may never need another one in this life  http://www.hilti.ca/holca/page/modul...&nodeId=-66350http://www.metabo.us/Product-catalog...59921c6.0.htmlhttp://www.boschtools.com/Products/T...spx?catid=1075Last edited by OldSkull; 11-22-2012 at 02:57 PM.Miller MM211Esab Mini Arc 161LTSEsab Handy Plasma 380Duck tapeTy- rapKool-aid
Reply:Do you have a service center? My milwaukee has plenty of power and I notice its ability to clean my coupons in class faster than the 10 amp dewalt did... Very smooth. I can't say there's something I don't like about it... Besides where it was made.
Reply:I used to buy the two-packs at Home Centers. All set up for pipe duties, one rock, one wire2 Bosch, 75$+/- still run, loud and shakey2 Makitas, I wanted to like these.. Smoked them in one boiler job.2 DeWalt, sparks started shooting out the sides after a year.Get what you pay for...I pleaded with my shop, Metabo all the way..... They got cheap ones for weekenders and they got some heavy duty bad grinders with all the features found on Metabos:, Soft start, clutch protection, thermal protection, ect. It all comes down to feel & personal preference.  Either way, you pay for a quality product. This nonsense about Bosch being equal is absolute crap. There are models that are equivalent, but in high end line, Milwaukee serves the higher price point professional series.Constant Current Weldor.
