New to the fourm; not new to welding, although it’s been 20+ years since I’ve run a bead of any type. Ok, maybe I am new to welding after reading what I just typed. 20+ years; yeah, I’m an old coot. In any event I am about ready to buy a Lincoln Invertec V350-Pro welder. This machine does not come with any leads, tig torch, wire feed  ect…The question of the semester is this. How good of a power source/welder is the Lincoln Invertec V300??? Any known problems?  I don’t plan on building ships in my back yard, just some tig work, and run some 6010, 6013, and maybe 7018 now and then, tig mostly. This is a big investment for an old retired guy like me; all input, pros/cons will be of great help.Thank you in advance
Reply:great welder. single and 3 phase input from 208-575 volts, 5-425 amp output, and capable of stick, tig, mig, flux cored and pulsed mig.in a package not much bigger than a 180c mig.you need more things to do now that ur retired, buy itlincoln weld pak 100 hdlincoln ranger 225gxt ac/dcoxy/acetylenepuroxcw202 victor fc100harris model 85harrismodel 16oxweld w24roxweld w17
Reply:Big difference between the v-300 amd a v-350 pro.The current v-350 is quite a machine. Comes is several models. Seven of them. The simple  construction model that just does basic mig, stick and lift arc tig.The factory model comes several ways and can have the advanced programing panel that will allow pulse welding. The V-350 is a micro computer controlled welder. With a special adapter, you can plug it into a computer and update the software, calibrate it and read the fault logs. Lincoln has a diagnostic program. that can be used on the v-350, powermig 350 and all the power waves. These welder all use the same control pcb with different soft ware on them. That said. Great stick welder by its self. need a tig torch for tig. An HF box for HF tig. Some type of wire feeder for mig welding. Bench feeder, suitcase (ln25) or spoolgun.
Reply:Dimmit!! I let that Lincoln get away from me. That’s what happens when you get old; ya get slow! At any rate, I am looking for another welder; I need a tig/stick unit that can and will weld ( tig) up to 3/16 aluminum now and then; mostly then. anyway I been reading a lot of post on this forum; damn, theirs a lot of talent here. Thanks men; I’ll let you know if I find another welder. Thank you
Reply:If you want to weld 3/16" aluminum, the V350 probably would have needed a spoolgun to get that done. Another way to weld 3/16" aluminum is to look for an AC/DC tig machine of maybe 200 amps or more. AC polarity and lots of power will weld thicker aluminum like that. The list of capable machines would take all night to chase down...but you have two choices with power sources. One is the standard transformer based source, the other is the inverter based source. The more you learn, the better choice you will make. The V350 is a top shelf inverter, but it has no AC output that I am aware of.City of L.A. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore."Job 28:1,2Lincoln, Miller, Victor & ISV BibleDanny
Reply:Like some others has said. If you want to Tig aluminum, you need an AC unit. Most likely you will find AC/DC CC machines. Meaning they will do Stick and Tig in AC or DC mode. Unfortunatley there is no multi process machine that has AC on it. Atleast none that I have seen. If that is what you want to do, you might be lucky that the invertec got away.  There are a couple of questions I would ask if you want to do this. 1). What type of power do you have? 1ph 3ph. Also, do you care about how big the machine is?  Meaning you can get a smaller inverter machine that is portable, but costs more, or you can get an older style scr machine, and pay less, but it won't be portable. The more info we have the more help we can be. Godd luck.

Reply:So hears what I did today. I went over to my local Lincoln welder dealer, and I bought a Precision 225 tig; and also ordered a water cooled tig torch. It will be at my house on Friday.  Yep, that’s what I did. It should be more than enough welder to do what I want; ( tig aluminum ) most of the tig work will be on 3/16 or less; maybe some ¼in mounting tabs but not much else in ¼. In any event, what do YOU WELDERS, think about the Precision 225, the good the bad and the ugly. Tim, the young man that sold me the welder is a certified welder (Huron Labs) same place my last cert. came from; At any rate he told me Lincoln has had good success with this little unit. What say you???Thanks in advance.
