Hello ya'll:  I'm about to embark upon making an aluminum gas tank (with internal baffles).  This is my first one so I'm curious to know:  What have you guys used to make the external threads on the cap on the gas tank and where did you buy these devices?  Also, what and where for Internal threads as well? Thanks for your help.
Reply:I'm pretty sure you can buy premade cap and bung kits.
Reply:The Chassis Shop will have what you need. Pro-werks brand. Very good prices too. Summit, Jegs, Speedway and many others have weld in tank bungs too but The Chassis Shop has more choices.www.tjsperformance.comDynasty 300 DXHTP 240HTP Microcut 380Hyperthem 85JD2 Hyd Bender and HF Hyd Ring Roller all in one =(Frankenbender)Bpt. Reply:I make my own.......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Also. Fueltankparts dot com too. It looks like a fairly new site. I need to build a custom made hydraulic tank and might use their vented cap kit.www.tjsperformance.comDynasty 300 DXHTP 240HTP Microcut 380Hyperthem 85JD2 Hyd Bender and HF Hyd Ring Roller all in one =(Frankenbender)Bpt. Reply:Hi Zapster.  If you're making your own, that fits into my initial question:  What tools are you using and where did you buy them?
Reply:Zap makes his own tools.Zap even makes problems that require he then make tools to fix.Zaps looks upon our tools as crutches for the handicapped.Zap can make a tool faster that works better before I can fetch one from one of my tool boxes...but that's life here with Zap....bless his salty old heart

Reply:I now bow down to the Zapster.
Reply:Your cheapest option is to weld on pre-made bungs.  They should be several dollars each.  Buying taps and dies even for small pipe fittings will run you $40-100 per thread size.  Everything you need is available at McMaster.com.  They aren't the cheapest but they are certainly worth the convenience.Ever seen a South Bend lathe with a taper attachment for cutting tapered threads?Last edited by 76GMC1500; 02-19-2015 at 02:03 AM.
Reply:I have not.  But from what I've seen, anytime a "lathe" is mentioned, the $$ signs in my brain go wild.  I'd love to have one, but, not willing to spend hundreds or thousands for it.  I currently can't justify that cost.   Thanks everyone for your feedback, it's greatly appreciated.
