I have a pipe beveling machine with only the dogs for 6" and need to bevel some 5" and would like to know if I could get some bolts 1" longer than the 6" dogs if that would work. Here,s a couple of pics of the machine. Attached Images
Reply:The length of the stand off dawgs would probably be different than a simple 1" since you need to adjust to the difference in pipe radius. Reply:Yes it will work. You just need to center the machine with a set of nuts on each bolt. Put the torch at the top and measure the gap, run it down to the bottom and measure, adjust as needed.
Reply:to go along with what Walker said, if you have some all-thread that will fit in the stud mount holes you could use pieces of that and some nuts to adjust to length to center the cutting unit on whatever pipe you are working with. It is nice to have the correct parts to go with that piece of equipment but you can certainly "improvise" in lieu of those. We have a Mathey-Dearman at our shop at school, it uses similar parts to change from one diameter pipe to another. Regardless of the brand these are pretty awesome pieces of equipment for how simple they really are. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Thanks guys, I thought it would work. All I need to bevel is 8 pieces, weld a base plate on for the boss. Last time I used a grinder and he complained it was taking to long. My dad had the 4" and 5" but have loaned the beveler out several times since he retired in 1982, so god knows where they're at. I'll call H&M and see if I can order some, that way when I'm ready to sell it I'll have the complete set.Thanks |
