Hi all,I recently purchased a '54 short hood SA200, Cont.162 engine, Fairbanks mag, and with original bellows idler. Everything is still in working order. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the fella I purchased it from is a forum member, I think he told me about this place. Anyhow, while tinkering around I hooked up my timing light to check timing and to get anywhere close to the "T" on the flywheel I have to clamp light to the #1 spark plug wire. From reading I was under the understanding that I should be getting my readings from the #4 wire with this model. Timing appears to be advanced some too. I get a light with the "T" about 1-1/4" on the downhill side of flywheel. I'd hate to start jacking with it and get all turned around since everything works. Sometimes "better" is the enemy of "good enough". But I would like to smooth out the low idle as I get an errant pop in the exhaust now and then. On high idle sounds great though. cheers kamotz
Reply:You're not "seeing things" kamotz. You can actually time the Continental on either #1 or #4 cylinders and Lincoln instructs timing to #1.Check out page 4 - http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...oln3/im179.pdfLast edited by duaneb55; 03-31-2011 at 10:21 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
