We get a lot of big loads going by the shop all the time. I rarely get enough time to do more than glimpse them as they go by. But occasionally I'm out and notice the escorts soon enough to get my phone out. These are some that I managed to catch in the last 3 months or so.   I've glimpsed a few of these go by but this is the only shots I've gotten of one. Reply:I heard these guys going up the hill but didn't get the see them. But I found them stopped at the edge of town while the escorts where filling up when I went to lunch so I got these shots. Reply:Good stuff.  Wouldn't be very nice of the guy in the pusher truck to gradually ease off the throttle, kick it into N and let himself get pulled along, now would it?  I've had a few partners who'd try that very thing.
Reply:That last one looks like the beer storage tank my BIL and SIL had put in.

Reply:I love the prime mover with the planetary axle hubs. I couldn't make a any names  did you by chance get any . . As for kicking the pusher truck into neutral, there is a u tube video where the driver bails out going down hill ,and the hole rig jack knifes and puts the load on the ground . I love it at the end where the driver jumps back in the truck and starts waving his arms  like he was there all the time!!
Reply:The push truck is pretty much in neutral 90% of the time only time he really steps up to the plate and gives her the beans is when hes needed.    its more of an assist position.   truth be told he does more on turns than he does on hills too.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I hope it's a bit better in Texas, where you're at, when it comes to the wide loads. They sometimes get real aggressive here. Some loads, that don't require police escort, just have two chase cars, like in your pics.  Kelly, and I, have experienced some real azzhole chase car drivers.  They will swerve over into your lane as they approach to make you pull off the road.  AND THIS HAPPENS AT 65MPH  They run FAST, and bull their way down the road.  Somebody will be killed eventually is my thinking.I pulled a stupid trick that someone 1/3 my age would probably do.  I had a pace car come across the line as it approached me, and I swerved into its lane.  Played chicken.  Luckily I won, and nobody was killed.  Stupid of me to do.But on the flip side........they pull this crap on you, and sometimes (especially on the state highway in front of our place) there's just no place to pull off the road at high speed.  I had this happen when I was pulling a load of hay with the big truck.  The morons had to stop, and the both of us eased around each other, me being almost in the ditch.  Soft shoulder (semi muddy), extreme side angle, high hay load, and you can bet my butt was puckered"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:And you can see dust coming off the road where the drivers (rear axles) on the rear truck had applied braking I think, not 100% sure because of the quality of the first video."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:@ bratkid63 - awesome!  Rocket works.  Image #1 appears to be an Apollo era capsule?  Images #3 and #4 looks to be SRB components?  A buddy of mine tests engines down at Stennis.  Always has cool stories.  Thanks for sharing bro "Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:Love the space stuff, bratkid63! Sure would stink to hit a bridge with any of those.....At one time before I was on my own, I ran a mobile rock crusher.  Spent some time in TN, KY, WV, and VA with it.  I knew even less about hauling back then than I do now, but I know the crusher and the truck grossed at 125k once we had it down to an irreducible load.  Anyhow, the guy who pulled it was CRAZY.  He pulled in to a site one time with the entire back half of the parts trailer roof ripped off and gone.  Said it was the fault of the narrow roads he was on and some tree that stuck out too far.  Never you mind that he managed to get the 12' wide crusher through there fine the day before.  He claimed to have lost the whole cab off a loader against a bridge another time.  Said he just kept going because the alternative was worse.  PS - Forgot to mention, nice looking International you had!!!
Reply:Pic #1 is a simulator of the new Orion capsule that they used to practice water recovery. #2 is one of three doppler radars used after the Columbia disaster to track any debris falling from the shuttle during ascent. Supposedly it could track particles as small as a BB. #3 is a forward assembly for the Aries 1X test rocket that was launched in 2009. It was part of the now cancelled Constellation program. #4 is a spent solid rocket booster casing from a shuttle launch. They were sent back to Utah via railcar for reloading. Gross load for that particular segment is around 100,000 Lbs. The aft segment is closer to 120,000. (The casings are thick steel.) Reply:I knew if I looked long enough I would find these.  The heaviest lifts I have been involved with.  Just over 300,000 lb.These units are not just some rolled plate.  They are packed full of pipe, valves, boxes and all sorts of assorted goodies. I have some pictures of them being stacked up and welded if anyone is interested.PaulMiller Thunderbolt XLPraxair O/AOther stuff
Reply:When I was stationed in Germany, I got to see the Windmill's being taken in convoys to be assembled at their designated locations somewhere else in Europe.  From far away, you don't realize how long and wide those blades really are!  Hard to get a picture when your traveling at 225kmh though!
Reply:I've seen a LOT of windmill blades go by here though there's not been many lately. Just a lot of tower pieces.   I managed to get these the other day. I had a little bit of warning that they would be going by so was semi prepared and managed to step out of the trailer in time to snap these with my good camera. Reply:more. They had another tractor that went by before the load. Probably for the big hills. Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:I see a ton of wind turbine parts on US-12 headed through town here.  Seems one day there will be a bunch of trucks with tower pieces, then a week later, trucks with the nacelle, then LOTS and LOTS of blades a few days after that.  They must erect them in batches, plunk the nacelles on, then stick the blades up.  I'm sure it saves a lot of time by not having to swap out the rigging setups 3 times for each one.You didn't build that.'85 Miller AEAD-200LE
Reply:I live fairly near to the Boeing plant in Everett, WA (largest building in the world by volume) so I see the wing transport trucks cruising around occasionally. The rear part of the trailer actually has a driver in it, it's pretty cool to watch the tractor go around a corner on the inside with the rear driver taking the outside lane.
Reply:That one had both trucks on the front and both on the back when they came up the hill past the ranch HQ on 83 Wednesday afternoon. I mistakenly needed to run to Childress the next morning, got stuck waiting behind it for 15+ mins just for it to make a left hand turn and bypass town out toward the prison. Was neat seeing how they made the turn though, there were guys sitting in those little "shacks" steering the trailer axles as they turned.Don't know what day they went through Shamrock, but it took them a while to get through this area. I'm sure they hook it up when they need it.   My understanding is that it took them 6 hours to get from Childress to Shamrock (about 60 miles for those who don't know) the day before I took the pics. They stayed the night in town and my hand noticed them and talked to them. He then stopped by on his way home to tell me they would be going by the next morning.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:Managed to catch a couple more. First was a interesting load. I didn't have much time and barely got these snaps with my phone.   The load was suspended under the trailer.  This doesn't really qualify as a big load except that it is for the size rig.
