I bought a torch today. I was using a friends the past year but he needed it back. Victor 0384-2036 Journeyman Acetylene Heavy Duty Outfit'   i bought it at the welding supply instead of online.... I paid $534 maybe a little cheaper online but victor will not warrent there stuff unless approved dealer plus i like to support the local guy,  i don`t feel bad about going in there asking for help when i buy there,  I rent my tanks there too.I plan on buying the Lincoln  210mp by the end of june before the $200 rebate ends.  thanksLast edited by winginit; 05-05-2016 at 10:53 PM.
Reply:You won't be sorry with that set up. It will last you your life and your grand kids lives.
Reply:Cool, nice buy....Now go get the propane cutting tips for it and save lots of bucks and be lots safer, but keep the acet bottle and tips until maybe time to renew lease...well, unless you also weld/braze with it.
Reply:I wanted this set because the welding tips, i plan to keep the acet gas. Its just for personal use Im working on a old truck and i will find work for it im sure.  Thanks.
Reply:winginitIf you haven't used the torch - don't.  Unless you are doing heavy structural steel, and experienced, the physical size of a Journeyman is a serious handicap for general purpose torch utility.I toothed on industrial Smith cutting rigs.  I gravitated to Victor because of their greater variety, and options.I have two Journeyman's - two Super Range's - a detachable Long-Body, more than fifty cutting tips [000 - 6] and Rose-Bud stems to 36".The only time I use the Journeryman is to fire a Rose Bud for a big heat.Back when I 'tramp welded' I would install OA quick-couples on the shoprig so I could change out their 'boat anchor' for my own Super Range.Do yourself - an ergonomic and 'learning curve' favor - and down size.Opus
Reply:Torches are personal preference and not everyone likes a small handle torch. Don't knock a guy for buying a name brand heavy duty torch. With practice someone good with a torch can do nice work with what ever torch is at hand. No different than pipeliners generally prefer tong type stingers and structural welders prefer twist type. If you know what you're doing you can use either.

Reply:I used this torch for over a year, but it was not mine.  I am not a pro but 6`2 290lbs and strong to me it feels great.  the sales guy tried to sell me a harris for much less  i still bought the victor.    i have 20 more old farm trucks to cut up over the next 2 3 years  i want it big and heavy torch i feel safe i can step back when this rusty **** falls . Also i wanted to 3 welding tips to try out welding.I looked on craigslist for 2 weeks and didnt see anything i felt self using.  i could always grab a smaller torch when i finally see a nice one.  i wanted new regs and hose. and i bought from welding supply for support when needed .  thanks
Reply:WOW . Sounds like you are a pro with lots of experience.  if i was you i would want all those different torches,  for me i didnt want to be limited by the torch for what i wanted to do,  it should do what i want.  thanks for the help.
Reply:Originally Posted by 12V71I have to agree with this, That's a lot of bucks for a job that a much less expensive setup will do. I too have a big variety of torches up to a giant 48" Victor demolition style cutting torch. But the o/a sets on my trucks are the smaller Victor "Firepower" sets. Same as the Super Range, just much less expensive. Last set I bought was around $180 a couple years ago. And honestly I've tried the Chinese copies from Northern Tool and they aren't bad either for the price... As long as you use Real Victor tips.
Reply:So,  what would be a good torch to compliment the set up i just bought ? thanks
Reply:I have to say you did right...My first torch setup was a medium duty Smith Lifetime. I come across a good used Journeyman a couple years later. Kept the Journeyman in my shop and the Smith on my truck. Several years ago I came across another Journeyman worth the money. Ever since I have not even looked at the Smith. Last year at a pawnshop I came across a cutting head and mixing chamber for $35. I didn't hesitate to buy it and now I carry it as a spare in my truck.I love the Journeyman torch, it's all I use. Reply:Well i took a quick look on craigslist this morning,  and there was a victor Super-Range 2 never been out of the box the guy bought it and never used it so i had to grab it for $200,   now i have spare rgs more hose and a medium duty torch,  i should be good for awile !   I am after a welder now.  Thanks
Reply:winginitFirst - kudos for purchasing your torch from a LWS - whatever additional you paid over online - will be paid back with in-person support.   Congrads on your 'down-sized' Super Range score.Understand - I love all & anything Victor.  In addition to the afore mentioned torches: I have a 36" Heath Pantograph [Victor Cutting Barrel], a Straight Shooter [Super Range Body] for demolition, and a Koike Handy Auto torch.  In the early '90's Koike adapted Victor cutting tips as there standard tip.https://www.grainger.com/product/VIC...achment-25DV31These are available in extended lengths.Excuse the Grainger link - Victor's Site is as bad as the WW's search function.http://www.google.com/search?q=koike...HcYhBNkQ_AUIBAThanks to you - my new recommendation to beginning 'torch artists' will be to purchase both - hence, they won't have any excuse for dissatisfaction.Opus
Reply:Esab had an 18' (yes 18 foot) long torch that may have been a little difficult to handle. Esab/Victor have about the most useless websites imaginable.
Reply:They all work the Airco corn cob was my fav years ago now use anything. Used to be lotsa brands Meco ,Dockson ,Air Products, KG, Linde, etc. For natural gas propane heating Harris has the best line. Flame camber 44 x 498 and you see what you need!
