I heard through somebody that this was sitting at a thrift store. Picked it up since a friend of mine is looking for an engine drive. I picked machine, trailer and compressor all for 200 bones!!!!  Good deal or what. Attached Images

Reply:Sometimes they post like that around here. There was a nice Hobart 300 amp tig with water cooler and torch that sold for 300. We tried to snag it, but it was gone within an hour of being listed.

Reply:What's even better is when its all beat up but they want more because of sentimental value. I used to haul scrap cars(my exs dad owns a junk yard) I went to go pick up a truck that was compleatly rotted out, you couldn't restore it if you tried, he wanted 7000 for it for sentimental value.
Reply:Cable ??  No cable ?   Boy , you got screwed royal !     NOT !   I always here about these deals but never get in on them. Glad you did !

Reply:Lol on the mig gun, I guess the thrift shop didn't know what they had, they just wanted some cash, I helped out some homeless people by buying the machine. Win win in my book.

Reply:True, I belive that's what happened in this case because the owner of it donated it and it was a woman, my guess it belonged to her husband he passed so she donated it. Yep he place that I bought it from actually had the homeless there, it was like a house with a small building or large garage as the place they sell donated items and use the money to pay the bills and feed the homeless. It's a good cause. They mostly had trinkets and small things so I'm sure they were happy to have sold the welder to me. I promised them some scrap aluminum to help them out.
Reply:Around here I see a few guys using craigslist to swoop up all the yard sale left overs, and then next weekend you see everything at the flea market or swap meet as some of you guys call it
Reply:It happens even at the flea markets I've sold at.  The "regulars" who are there all the time will make a quick round of the "new" tables where people come in to sell unwanted items on a one time basis either before the market opens, or right at the start. The dealers will spot the "goodies" and try to get the seller to make a few quick sales, often at a discounted price, hoping the seller has no clue what the real value of the items is. Then they take the stuff back to their tables and mark it up to what it's really worth. Then they usually make a 2nd round near the end again looking for bargains when the people are ready to leave and snatch up any items the seller wouldn't budge on earlier hoping they'd rather sell then drag stuff home..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

As far as the flea market goes, I like going to them, but I get tired of seeing the same old junk week after week.Originally Posted by DSWIt happens even at the flea markets I've sold at.  The "regulars" who are there all the time will make a quick round of the "new" tables where people come in to sell unwanted items on a one time basis either before the market opens, or right at the start. Reply:i found a good method finding tools dont go into tools for sale. thats where someone wants almost full blown prices for used stuff.i look were the non-knowers post the ads, like garage sales and mostly general for sale.been good to me.also iv seen someone post in a totaly mistaken place like household goods.thats where i found a nice 454 chevy once they had no replys so i talk em down to half there pricecome on ..a used mystery welder prob worth 500 new should be worth 250 300 right? not like 400.been there and it breaks soon after. just spend thee 100 more for new.with warr.
Reply:Originally Posted by DSWIn some ways I agree, but in other ways I see a lot of these guys trying to take advantage of people. If you know an item is worth $100 and the seller has it marked at $5, either you buy it or you don't. I can see if you want to buy a bunch of stuff and work a deal to buy in bulk to pay $25 rather than the posted $35, but I hate to see people getting taken advantage of.I know it's a real gray area. If someone doesn't know the value of something and prices it below market value, that's their problem. But if someone knows the value and is simply beating the seller up when it's already a real bargain, I'm not sure I agree with that. I guess some of this has to do with how it's done. I've seen guys come over to sellers at yard sales and tell them they have an item way under priced and that they should be asking more, and seen the seller thank them and say that's ok, they just want to get rid of it. I've also seen buyers who come across as high pressure car salesmen. They swoop down like a vulture to snap up all the goodies, beat up and abuse the seller telling them they are way over priced, simply to save even more money on an under priced item so they can retail it for big bucks. Then they leave the seller trying to compete with them with a bunch of junk no one wants. In many ways I see these guys in the same light as the hack home repair guys who come in and promise a great job, only to leave the unsuspecting homeowner with a crap job and usually more problems then the started with, and usually charge them an outrageous price to boot.
Reply:I agree with DSW. When I go to sell things I generally put up a fair price but with craigslist you always get the guys that buy and instantly resell "often with the original sellers photos at twice the price"   of course they call you to try to beat you down on price. I always make it clear that I am firm on price to keep them away but some always show up and get pissed when I tell them to get F#@k%d. Cant stand the guys but there is an endless supply. Also if someone gives me a fair price on something I never beat them up trying to be cheep. Its an ethics thing most people and Wall Street have forgotten.
