on my  job site we have 9 vantiage 400 i have heard that  from time to time you have to replace these bords, is this true? we have  2 bran new welders with less than 100 hours and i have had to replace the bords and brushes any info would be  great
Reply:Don't know about the vantage 400. But the cause of that pc board failure in some of the other Lincoln welders is AC voltage. If what you are welding on has some AC voltage on it and the vantage see it across the either the weld leads or just one weld lead and the welder case (ground). These pc boards will die. The parts on them do not like AC voltage. The electrical systems in some older buildings may not have good grounds. I was in one plant the had a 460 volt 3 phase delta power system that was not grounded. You could short one of the hot conductors to ground and not have it spark or trip out a breaker. Some have a floating neutral. Use a volt meter to see if any AC voltage can be measured between the welder case and the welding project. If so you need to find a way to make it go away before welding. Unless required by the job site, try to keep welder case from being connected to ground. If you have to, try to use the building, that way there isn't any AC voltage from welder ground to the building, They are at the same electrical potential.
Reply:thanks for the info but these welders have there own  engine for power, we are welding round pile in the  ground.  would the pipe being magnatized  be able to  do that.  i have no idea, anything eles  you can spitfire off would be awsome
