Well, as the title says, I'm picking up a non generator welder tig/stick tomorrow.  Finally will get to stick/tig weld in the shop without firing up the Trailblazer.  Found a very clean Miller DialArc HF with pedal, torch, cooler on cl.  Should be a nice transformer machine and can't wait to get it to the shop.  It's an Oct 1987 build per the miller manual to it's SN.  Definitely looking forward to the additional features as well.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

Reply:So, picked it up...damn thing is heavy.  Wasn't fun loading it into the jeep since I have the flu.  Luckily the guy had two helpers there who are personal trainers, so a couple additional big guys to pick it up.  I'll pull the engine hoist out tomorrow and pull it out of the Jeep, then some wiring and I'm good to go.  Neighbors will be happy that my late night welding doesn't mean running the TB anymore .--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

Reply:Okay, despite the fever kickin my ***, I got the beast out of the jeep this morning and took some pics:Took a close up of the face plate which is high enough res to have the text be readable for anyone else looking at one of these.  I couldn't find a pic of the faceplate that was decent online before buying it, so here it is for everyone else:Here's the rest of the pics...have to clean it up a bit and I'll make sure there are no mice or anything on the inside before getting my wiring done and firing it up:And one of the water cooler that came with it:--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

Reply:Not a steal but condition and location can make a huge difference. How far did you have to drive to get it?"USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Nice gear! I think you got a pretty good deal considering what all was included.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:I also think it was a pretty good price...you got everything in one trip!  ...And it's VERY clean.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:So, what do you guys think about running this off of a 50a socket until I get the rest of my enclosures and such in to wire it to a 90a link?--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Should be able to weld to 150amps with out the plug getting hot.Might be able to get up to 200 amp for a short time. Remember to give breaker time to cool down. When it trips you know how high you can go. Stick welding uses more watts than TIG welding. This means you get a few more amps for TIG welding than you have for stick welding.
