Does anyone know anything about the relationship between welding tip sizes and wire sizes? I'm new to MIG. I bought a TWICO 211i which uses Velocity contact tips. I have been using 035 wire with .035 contact tips, but recently, I switched rolls to .024 wire which I bought at Tractor Supply. They normally handle Hobart products. The problem is, Velocity does not make .024 contact tips. The closest I've found was .023 tips. So what is the deal here I'm not suppose to run .024 wire in my TWICO?
Reply:For practical purposes .023,.024 and .025 would all be considered the same.

Reply:I gave it a try, and the wire goes through OK ... Thanks for the replies.
Reply:You can get away with using a tip that's one size larger than your wire if need be.Keep in mine, your drive rolls and gun liner should be matched to your wire size as well. But, Like your gun tip, you can often get away with a gun liner that's one size larger than your wire. Your drive rollers must match your wire size however.Last edited by snoeproe; 05-12-2016 at 01:27 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720 |
