https://albany.craigslist.org/tls/5537554219.html          Thanks.  I have been posting  welders i am interested in.  looking for advice,i never welded before but want to learn to do body work on a old truck.  after reading and learning i realize this is not the best for sheet metal but still a good machine for a newbie.  i like this one because extra long leads and ac/dc   not sure if $350 is to high,   what does extra long leads cost ?  it looks dusty but clean  thanks
Reply:That machine price would be high in my location. I think the heavier looking black coil going around the machine is a extension cord. Depending on wire size and cord length that new if 8 gauge and 25' long is around $50 and if 50' long about $100 providing it has male and female ends. I think the actual ground and stinger cables are factory length. Ask seller cord wire info and length and if it has male plug and female receptacle. If the cord is 50' with ends I would offer $300.00 but ONLY if you need the extension cord. NEW for a couple hundred gives you a WARRANTY too. Farm and Fleet sells it for $500.00 http://www.farmandfleet.com/products...FZSGfgodwooE5gFarm and Fleet also has HOBART welders on sale, http://www.farmandfleet.com/s/?keyword=Hobart+welders

Reply:too high. i know it's ac/dc but if you have patience and don't have to own it this second you can do better. also imvho get the ac model and use 6011 rods. i've seen them as low as 75. around here on cl.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Too high. I would look for an Idealarc 250 for around the same or less, if you really look. The 250 will do most any stick welding you will come across, and they have a wonderful arc."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Body work with a stick welder? And you've never welded before? That better be an old – and I mean OLD truck with THICK body panels – or you're going to have a tough time with body work. Not trying to discourage a stick welder, it's what I started with and I recommend it, but it's not ideally suited to body work. Have you considered MIG, or even oxy-acetylene (for brazing body panels)? They might be more appropriate for your application...O/A is really versatile for things like shrinking and flame bending, and if you learn to braze or weld with it, that will help you if you eventually want to TIG weld, too. Good luckLast edited by Kelvin; 05-10-2016 at 06:49 PM.
Reply:To much for the welder, Fleet Farm sells stickmates new for a little more than $100.00 more than $350.00 with a warranty. Be patient, I found a 250 amp Century on CL for $100.00 with 50 foot cables.

Reply:Pass on that one, WAY WAY WAY too expensive. You can find them for $100 and less all the time on CL. I've seen them multiple times as low as $50. Don't be afraid of really old ones to, they are basically bulletproof. However I wouldn't really want to weld any body panels with it, get a small mig machine like a Millermatic 125 or so. You can get them new for $500, and easily used in that $350 range.RyanMiller Multimatic 200 tig/spool gun/wireless remoteMillermatic 350P, Bernard/XR Python gunsMiller Dynasty 350, Coolmate 3.5 & wireless remoteCK WF1 TIG wire feederMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeOptrel e684Miller Digital EliteMiller Weld-Mask

Reply:Originally Posted by Jason280Maybe AC only machines, but you will be hard pressed to find AC/DC stick machines for under $200.  $275 would not be a bad price, assuming the leads are all in place and it comes with an intact extension cord.

Reply:Those AC/DC 225/125 Lincoln are almost $600 new. I see used 225 AC only Lincolns selling for $150-$200 in my area. $300 would be a reasonable price for that AC/DC machine. That one has a long extension cord that's worth a good dollar also.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
