cutting pipe with a dry cut saw

can i do it? i've got a milwaukee dry cut saw. from my research i think yes, thought i'd ask for some expert opinions before i start chopping. thx.
Reply:Hey madduck,Yes, it's not hard if you don't make it hard. Be sure to have the pipe level & tight in your saw vise. Reply:I've cut alot of used drill stem with mine. Does just fine. Was using 72t Milwaukee brand blades.
Reply:thanks guys. i'm pretty good about securing things i'm cutting, having them supported properly and with my line of full time work, not welding, not that talented, safety is a huge factor for me. always wear proper clothes, eye and ear pro. what i lack in knowledge i make up for in heart. it's the lacking in knowledge where i scare myself. i.e. not knowing for sure if i can cut pipe in my saw...safely. we can't cut cast iron stuff in a dry cut saw can we? i'm not cutting any, and i'd get more guidance before i tried it if i needed to. some of the questions i know i ask are pretty rudimentary, but i believe no question is stupid if it's sincere. and no matter how smart someone is about a subject, they were taught by someone who took the time with them. thanks for the info, appreciate your time.

Reply:is there any metal i SHOULD NOT cut with this saw? i know the limitations on sizes, what about types. i'm gonna guess stainless is a no-no. what about cast. i don't think i see a need for me to cut cast, but for educational purposes i'd like to know. thank for the info folks.
Reply:They make a different blade for aluminum (steel blades gum up).  They also make different ones for steel, if most of your cutting is a specific size. Otherwise the general purpose blade should do most ferrous metals.
Reply:Dry cut saws can cut aluminum, steel but not  aluminum.  Don't cut anything that's harderned on dry cut saw .IMO, it would be best if you'll use band saw in cutting pipes. Anyway, goodluck . Reply:Jimmy-Pop, I wouldn't cut drill rod unless it was annealed.  Any hardened steel is where a old style abrasive cutoff saw comes back into play.
Reply:They make different blades for different materials. Rage offers blades for steel, stainless, aluminum, and one that even cuts masonry, Hardened steel would be about the only thing that might not be a good idea to cut. Just get the right blade for the material your cutting. You can cut aluminum with a steel blade but your going to want to use a lubricant and dont be surprised if the blade gums up.
