Got this job on Monday. 57'9"1/2 tall coal silo fill tube, 1" A36 shell 9'2" OD with 3/8" Hardox 400 liner estimated finish weight 100,000lb deadline is 1APR2015. We had the shells rolled at another facility due to time and space restraints (they say they are working on a new tank shop for us but I'm not holding my breath) all are rolled perfectly and are within a 1/16 in diameter. The only thing that has me ticked off is QC wants to use 307L stainless in spray transfer to attache the liner he says that's the best way but my shop super says that's bull s#!t and i have 138' of weld to make on the 3/8 Hardox liner. Oh and a pic of the 90ton rolls their rent for me at a $1,000.00 a week.Last edited by colindstark; 02-07-2015 at 08:57 PM.

Because if you are doing this job you will probably do more.3. Why are you, your shop super and QC even discussing the procedure AFTER bidding the job? 4. Reply:Do you mean carbon steel electrodes? Maybe you can discuss it with the QC guy. I would bet there's a gas shielded flux core that would weld it but maybe there's a reason QC wants stainless, ie/ corrosion resistance, harder weld deposit, etc.. If the shell is 1" thick, why aren't the seams beveled? The whole thing looks like a good candidate for sub-arc welding.
Reply:That's a neat project using different grades of steel, the company that pays my mortgage makes Hardox and a36 granted a36 is a lot more common than branded wear plate. I don't get to see many end uses of our plate just shipping the stew out of it, I enjoy seeing what it becomes.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
