Hey guys! Was wondering what you do with small drops or junk stuff. I save odd end stuff in my goody bin. But stuff I know is absolutely scrap I've been using 5gallon pails. Carbon steel, aluminum, copper. It's okay but I'd really like to make some either stackable bins and able to pallet jack them to shop door to pick up with skid steer to load on trailer when time comes to take to the scrap yard. Any thoughts or what you guys been doing with your junk scrap?Miller Dynasty 200dxLincoln power mig 255Travel and comercial A/O rigsCheap 7"x14" horizontal bandsaw2 14" abrasion sawsDrill press. Reply:I have a several that were either old tanks or made from surplus plate that i had laying around.    The lightest one i think weighs 600LBS empty.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I use de-headed 55 gallon drums. I have a few drum dollys that allow me to push them around. When I get four full I put them on a pallet. When I get a couple pallets worth or when I need the space I dump them in some old army bins I bought off surplus. I have a barrel dumper I bought off CL. The bins are stacked three high outside. Each holds 2000 lbs of aluminum chips. I built a drum lift that may interest you if you decide to go the 55 gallon drum route.  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...5-gallon-drumsI used to use garbage cans but they didn't hold up well at all. I still use the plastic cans for stringy turnings because they are light.I looked into buying scrap bins but they are kinda spendy when you factor the shipping and such. I like the surplus bins I happened across because they are weather tight which allows me to stack them outside without tarping them.
Reply:I do have a drum lift as well. May consider that.Miller Dynasty 200dxLincoln power mig 255Travel and comercial A/O rigsCheap 7"x14" horizontal bandsaw2 14" abrasion sawsDrill press. Arsenal of grinders/die grindersPower tools Hand tools
Reply:At the school we use an end than was cut off one of those big propane tanks. Then just drag it onto a trailer when it's full
Reply:Here on the farm we have done everything in the past from 55 gallon drums to piling in pallets. Our local metal recycler leaves  a 6cubic yard bin in our yard now  at no charge. They pick up the bin when we call them, they take it back to their yard to be weighed  and return the empty. Attached Images:
Reply:some scrap dealers will provide one with a bin and come pick it up when full,
Reply:I get an old car/truck/van and use it as my dumpster for metal. When its full I take the whole bit in for scrap and start over. In the shop I have a few 30 gallon metal containers to hold the chips and stuff.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:I find people that have old truck beds that they want to get rid of or sell cheap (under $50).  Go get them, bring them home and fill them with scrap.  Then I scrap the bed with all the steel in it.  Got 2 ready to go to the scrap yard next week.  Obviously separating the Aluminum and Stainless. Some Blue , Some Red & Some GreyProverbs 16:2-3.2 "All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Reply:The bed/box idea is what I did I also welded fork boxes on the bottom so they could lift it ad rotate it to unload makes for a quick turn aroundB
Reply:Keep the ideas rollin! I have a medium duty utility trailer that I load up problem with that is I need it for other stuff. Also a 20' heavy duty flat bed if I needed to haul something big to scrap yard. I need something for inside shop till I'm ready. One idea I finally came up with is. Make some rectangle frames with heavy duty angle and with one side lower facing out make 4 that stack bottom with heavey caster wheels. And use wood to make sides so I can replace when beaten up and keep it lite weight.push to door and pick up with skid steer.Miller Dynasty 200dxLincoln power mig 255Travel and comercial A/O rigsCheap 7"x14" horizontal bandsaw2 14" abrasion sawsDrill press. Reply:Here's another. One of my scrap bins is an IBC tote that got punctured by a forklift and no longer held liquid. I got it for free. I cut the top out with the roto-zip. The scrap yard likes all my totes because they can dump them with their forklift rotators.
