Just posting a picture of my woods trailer. 4x8x2 inside the boards. Framework is 3/16 steel plate bent to channels. Welding process shall remain hush hush so as not to start a war. True 2x8 oak boards. 3 1/2 dia axle with 3/4 ton rear truck hubs, tube is half full oil. Pull a plug once or twice and check for oil and i'm done. No greasy hands. I run the big tires so is pulls easier thru the wet woods up here, plus they are the same as my truck. My wood splitter has the same setup so I am never short a spare tire. The hitch is, I guess you could call it a reverse receiver: pull the pin and the ball hitch slides out and a tractor clevis slides in. Just thought i'd post in case anyone was looking for another path to stray downTOOLS AND TOYSSMAW Mid States Inc. Reply:Some really good ideas there, especially using wheels and tires to match your truck. I also like the removable hitch deal too, been discussing that with someone looking to get a trailer secure enough for very high value storage. The removable hitch was one thing we discussed.Yeah, I know, but it'll be ok!Lincoln Square wave 255Miller Vintage mig30a spoolgunThermal Dynamics Pacmaster 100xl plasmaSmith mc torchEllis 1600 band saw
Reply:I've used the removable hitch on the last couple of trailers that I built. I double pinned the hitch for added safety. What's nice is that you can remove the hitch and slide a locking blank in for added security. It's not totally theft proof but greatly reduces the chances of someone backing up to it and driving off! |
