I'm becoming extremely aggrivated with people thinking their junk is worth a fortune and their **** don't stink.  I don't know what it is about my area, but people just don't grasp the concept that old, used equipment is no longer worth what you paid for it.  Let's start with this one, shall we?  It's a beat to hell Unknown brand, unknown specs welder/generator with a 2cyl wisconsin engine...  Asking $575http://annarbor.craigslist.org/bfs/2895777279.htmlHere's another... Old Airco unit, wisconsin engine, no specs, no leads, no battery, no pictures... Asking $500http://annarbor.craigslist.org/for/2895379156.htmlHere's a Harbor Freight 90 amp wirefeed... lightly used, asking $90.  I emailed the guy, asking if he would honor the $79 Harbor freight coupon I got in the mail.http://annarbor.craigslist.org/tls/2947403797.htmlOr how about a Lincoln AC tombstone with extended leads for $300http://annarbor.craigslist.org/tls/2891464461.htmlAnother $200 tombstonehttp://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/tls/2945065902.htmlOh here's a DC tombstone... comes with a mask and a brush... $500http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/tls/2962375882.htmlLincoln Tombstone... Asking $220http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/tls/2961811152.htmlLincoln Tombstone 180, comes with a box of rods... $175http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/tls/2946539655.htmlOne of my favorites here... It's an old AEAD-200LE with an engine I don't recognize.  Looks to bee poorly maintained, and included in the picture is the overspray on the driveway and the can of rustoleum he JUST SPRAYPAINTED IT WITH!  Asking $1500http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/tls/2956027157.html
Reply:Given the locations in the formerly-industrial parts of the US, such things should be dirt cheap.
Reply:My local craigslist doesn't have crap :/Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:I'd rather not have crap... than being cluttered up with overpriced crap.
Reply:The question is do they sell? Or are they re-listed for months?I don't know which is worse old beat up machines that must be made of gold for what their asking or new stuff at list price.Local guy here on C.L. trying to sell a brand new, only used once Syncrowave 200 for $100 under list. It looks mint, but I can buy cheaper on ebay or cyber weld, with full warranty and free shipping. Sorry buddy I know you want to get your money out, but it has to be cheaper than new. After 4 or 5 months of relists he dropped another $50 I really like the "Rustolium rebuild", overspray everywhere, but bet he gets $100 more for it.Last edited by MarkNotMarc; 04-17-2012 at 11:57 PM.

Reply:while some of them are over priced, I've never once sold anything on craigslist where someone came to buy it and didn't want to haggle a little bit so I always over price the listing to try and get close to what I actually want for the unit. If I want 500 for something I normally list at 650 knowing that when I pretend to let them talk me down 150 bucks i'm getting what I want and they feel like their getting a deal.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:People can list for whatever they want, the good deals are gone in a matter of minutes or hours.   the rest just expire and get repeatedly relisted.    I often look at the old ads and then see if its still available I will offer what I want to pay knowing they have not had a bite for a month at the price they have listed...Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I have bought and sold a few trucks and a skid steers over craigslist - it is a great tool for that sort of thing.  I just see it as a giant garage sale that I don't have to spend hours driving to in order to figure out that the price is too high.Keep your expectations in line with reality and you will see craigslist for what it is - a great way to get stuff for sale in front of a larger audience and a great way for buyers to see more stuff saving everyone time.Hobart LX235Victor 250 Oxy-Acetylene Rig (welding and cutting)Bobcat 773F-350, 1999, 4x4, 16' 10K# trailerOutdoor Wood Burner - 10 cords/year

Reply:You always see it - a few diehards that keep relisting and relisting the same thing for months or more.  On the local list one guy has been trying to sell this material cart for close to 2 yrs.  Seriously.  It is distinctive, so I notice it every time it pops up...  There are 2 guys listing OA tank sets that have sat on there, repeatedly relisted for most of a year now, if not longer.  You'd think these guys would catch a hint...-DaveXMT304 with: 22A Feeder, or HF251 Hi Freq DC TIG air cooled
Reply:Thought I would throw in my two cents on this one.  I am a regular lister on CL here in Phoenix.  I am selling off my unwanted items and am not hard up for money.  My logic is that someone out there wants what you are selling at the price you are selling it for.Example:1) I listed a Humvee "pioneer" tool set consisting of an ax and pick with a mounting frame that attaches to the truck.  I sprayed it fresh olive drab and listed it for maybe six months for $90 renewing it religiously.  I was in no hurry.  Then all of a sudden about three guys called me for it and the first one to show up with the cash, got it for the price I wanted.2) A set of trailer axles for a small, light duty trailer that I salvaged from a scrap yard for a few bucks.  I listed them for about three months for only $20 and a few days ago a guy shows up and pays me the $20 and out it went.3) A tire spreader used by tire shops that I build a year ago listed for about four months at $65 (cheap at that price too).  A guy showed up out of the blue and bought it and another item I had listed for months too when he caught a glimpse of it.  It was a flower pot stand made out of scrap metal with an industrial look to it.  I picked up $90 that day giving him a deal for buying the two items.I figure, I'm in now hurry to sell the stuff and it costs me about one minute to re-list my ad when it expires, faster if I just click on the "renew" button. So I can see the thinking of those that keep re-listing their items month after month.  Sooner or later the right person will buy the item and walk away thinking to themselves "cheap at twice the price".Over the years, I've sold a few thousand dollars of stuff via CL, using this strategy. If I was desperate for the money, now that's a different story.......Tony

Reply:I can see the logic in maintaining a listing for a longer time if the item is unusual as it may have a small market.  But for something as simple/common as an OA set...if it isn't selling, the reason is probably the price (or price vs condition...).Doesn't hurt me one bit.  I just keep seeing these things repeatedly and shaking my head.  It's the listers that are missing the boat on these, not me.-DaveXMT304 with: 22A Feeder, or HF251 Hi Freq DC TIG air cooled
Reply:Found another great one today...Harbor freight 90 amp flux core...  Asking $160, never used.  He paid $400, so it's a good deal. http://jxn.craigslist.org/tls/2964458117.html

Reply:I do an insane amount of business using craigslist. I have sold and bought at least half a dozen if not more vehicles through craigslist. I sell motorcycle parts through craigslist regularly and advertise some of the services I offer on there. That being said, a few things I have found. For every person who is asking more then something is worth, there are three or more guys who will call just to offer 1/3 of the price even if its fair. I don't list things unfairly high, usually below what you can find them for on eBay. Yet, inevitably someone wants to give me $20 for the $100 motorcycle part that sell for $150 used on eBay. They usually just scoff when I tell them to check how much they are on eBay then call me back. People on craigslist are unreliable. I have been told dozens upon dozens of times, I'll come pick it up tomorrow (or monday). I would say out of the people who tell me this, 10% (and that's an over estimate) at most will actually come through. I don't save anything for anyone without a deposit. The first person with cash gets the item, period. I always tell people to call me before you come to my house and usually won't give an address till they are planning to leave. I'd say about 25% of people just stroll on by hours after an agreed upon time. There are several times when people have gotten angry when they show up 2+ hours late and I'm not there. There have also been several times when people get angry when they show up two days later on a whim and the item is gone because it sold and they didn't bother to call me before they headed over. Its their gas money, so they pay for their lack of planning not I. That being said, there are a lot of dip **** sellers out there.Craigslist is a great site and I have made large sums of money as the result of it, but the fact that it is a used market often shows how people are cheap, disorganized, and their word isn't worth the air used to speak it.Last edited by Seb650R; 05-20-2012 at 12:23 PM.
Reply:Missing the deal wasn't the issue, a man can sell(or not) to whomever he wants.  Saying I'd take it, making arrangements to pick it up, being there on time and still being hosed was ticked me off.  A little consideration goes a long way.  S/F.....Ken M
Reply:I blame the Nigerians.  For everything I list (and doubly so for computer/electronic items) I get some scammer wannabe idiot offering to pay ~20% more than I'm asking plus 100% or more than it would cost to ship out of the country to their supposed nephew serving military duty.  I would think that a less-skeptical person could easily mistake this interest for legitimate offers of real money and not a money order printed on their inkjet at home.I just wish these people would show up in person to pass me a fake money order, I think I could have some real fun with a group of buddies roughing them up, tossing them in the trunk of my car and telling them that I'll let them out when the check clears...
Reply:You too!Boy, Ill tell ya, Lincoln AC Tombstones are soo rare the cost of a used one is more than the cost of a new one... Its tough out their!Every used engine driven welder on our CL is 1500$.  Weather its a SA200 or a Miller 2E. Once and again, I find a seller who KNOWS what they have, and what it is- in fact, worth...You guys get these?http://albany.craigslist.org/tld/2955854080.htmlLast edited by MadMax31; 05-23-2012 at 09:00 PM.Reason: ExtrasLincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120

Reply:I just sold a pair of deer antlers I've had on CL for about three months now at least.  I just keep posting it.  Since I am not hard up for the money I know that sooner or later the item I am listing the right person will come along who "can't live without it".My point is, just because someone keeps relisting it doesn't mean they will let it go cheap, they may be waiting for the right buyer at the price they want and glad to get it too!TonyThis guy keeps trying to sell his Lincoln SP-135T "TIG" machine for $600... lol  I responded a while back letting him know it wasn't a TIG machine but never heard back.  Been many years since I bought my SP135 plus, but pretty sure it was under $600 new, nowhere near the 1$200 he claims..http://charleston.craigslist.org/tls/2996648778.htmlLincoln SP-135 PlusParker Metalworking Plasma-Tec 40DVHF 4x6 Bandsaw
Reply:I've started using an app on my Android phone called Craigslist Notify or something like that... You can save several search keywords and it trolls for new posts.  Usually works within minutes.  I've snagged a couple really good deals using it, because when they pop up, I just call right then and there.
Reply:craigslist hasn't been very good to me lately. I had a bunch of no-shows for some tires I was selling. I would set up a time, they would tell me that they would be there and then no show. Not a call, not a text, nothing.I'm going to keep at it though because its free to use and has been effective in the past.http://www.facebook.com/groups/sa200weldersCurrent machines:Hobart G600 Powered by 1967 Chrysler LH-318 (Project)Hobart GF-250(Traded)68 Redface81 Blackface
