Reply:Curiosity...I know we are stuck with sine waves when we use transformer welders. And square waves are great for adjustable balance since the amplitude of 'on' is always the same. But what advantage are triangle, saw tooth or other wave shapes in welding?Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

The advantages of the different wave shapes are puddle control, and heat input.  My Dynasty has the traditional sine wave, in addition to advanced square wave, soft square wave, and triangular wave. The triangular wave is probably mostly used on thin aluminum. I haven't used it, so I don't know how well it works.I do like the advanced square wave over the soft square wave. I think it gives me better penetration. Hope this helps.
