I had a 12x12" 16ga piece of stainless 304 that I wanted to practice on before the main event which is going to be an exhaust modification on my car. I used a victor 100FC torch with a #0 tip and a 1/16th ER308L rod. I used solar B flux and really liked how it helped out. Before I had played with a couple of coupon with no flux and a R45 rod mainly just to see how stainless behaves since all prior welding has been done on mild steel. Is the black residue a sign that my mixture of Solar B flux was off or is that normal? I only went over the welds with a SS brush. There is a small spot in the backside of the weld on the middle picture, its a shadow lol. Thanks for looking. My next goal is to weld aluminum Last edited by wtfmarine; 04-17-2015 at 04:29 PM.Reason: forgot to add somethingAHPTIG 200xO/A - Victor Torch Did you try using a hammer? What about duct tape? What about a bigger hammer?
